With her finger idly running along the rim of the wine glass Claudia let her gaze hop from person to person around the room only smiling at anyone she knew. There was no need to be impolite while she did her people-watching. She tossed her head to the side letting her curls flip over her shoulders revealing her bare shoulder.
She couldn't really recall what the gala was funding but it was mostly research hospitals or museums of sorts. It's not that she didn't care about the causes, she was just slightly distracted. Claudia usually knew every face in the place; personally or just because it was smart to know the person however this was someone she didn't recognize. It wasn't like he walked in and she immediately spotted him but he was hard to miss. A tad tall but that wasn't what caught her attention. It was the lack of body fat and hot trophy wife that that made her pause. He was attractive and he was single. Already two out of three criteria fulfilled, kudos to him. She didn't know how he fit in but considering the friends he had and the people he spoke to, Claudia just knew this guy was big one way or another. It was aggravating in a way, not knowing someone who had friends so rich. The glass in her hand rang as she tapped it with the tip of her nail. Claudia watched him over the glass of her glass and hummed as she dipped her chin ever so slightly. She wasn't a gold-digger. No, that made her sound trashy. It wasn't bad that she wanted someone who could take care of her right? No one had a good name for it yet but she just called it being smart. If everyone thought the way she did, Claudia is sure people would be much happier. One last thing and he'd be perfect. She almost begged for a miracle in her head. There have been too many times when she's met a guy just to find out he's gay, or married or worse poor. Again, she had nothing against poor people they just weren't her type. Claudia wasn't about to take care of her future husband, that wasn't life she wanted. When he spoke to the party's host Claudia could feel her her worries fall away. Attractive, single and rich. Bingo. That was all the incentive she needed. Claudia uncrossed her legs and pushed herself onto her heeled feet. A quick brush over her strapless floor-length dress was all she needed to be sure. One last sip was all she needed before sashaying her way in his direction. The wine swished in her cup but she was careful not to let a drop fall on her dress. Stains were hard as is yet alone on something as white as what she was wearing. She took another sip as she closed in. It was going to be perfectly fine. Claudia turned herself out till she was behind him and tapped his shoulder with with one of her manicured digits. "Hello." Claudia took a step in towards him and smiled brightly. Her eyes lit up as she spoke. "It's rare I see a newcomer. Does he have a name?" She couldn't help but think about whether or not he was a creep. It was always the perverts who looked like the nicest. Might as well take a chance. "I suppose you could call me the welcoming committee." Her heavy accent made her e's slur together much to her annoyance but so far so good. 21st May sometime in the night.LET ME ADORE YOU LAIKA OF GS!

Jonathan was not the biggest fan when it came to these high class parties. Still when he was given a good enough reason to attend one, he couldn’t help but say yes. Some of the people here he had known from other events, at least two he knew from one of his father’s own get togethers. The rest were either faces he knew because he had to, or people he would soon get to know back because someone would end up introducing him at some point. When Jonathan was told about the party he had tried to decline the invitation because it had been sent through his father. Yet he changed his mind when he found out that the host was someone he knew, a kind aristocrat who spent a great deal of money into medical research, some of that research expanded into cancer research as well. That had been the kicker, Jonathan couldn’t deny an invitation from someone who could have honestly been the reason to why Jonathan was still alive.
So after a quick talk with his father in finding out who else was going, Jonathan worked on getting a nice suit and made sure to even get a hair cut. Nothing too fancy, just a trim, his curly locks still acted a bit unruly, but atleast now he looked a bit more cleaned up. He made sure to shave off that five o’clock shadow he had gained recently. His father had even made a big deal of getting Jonathan a limo to use, not wanting Jonathan to show up in that truck of his. He had made it to the party fashionably late, so no one really noticed his entrance, which was good, the less attention the better. He spent the rest of his time snacking on finger foods and sipping the same glass of wine for the past three hours. Jonathan was not a drinker, in fact he was fairly against it, but he knew with a drink in his hand it gave him something to sip on when in the middle of a boring conversation. He got passed around from group to group, getting introduced as his father’s son. Most people did not know him of who he really was, but that he was Howard Kendrick, known as some big shot business man who worked with the government.
There was a point where he ran into a friend that he had grown up with, a young man who was already married and in the process of taking over his father’s business. This man’s name was Thomas, he was only two years younger than Jonathan, but they both got along well enough. Thomas had been the one to drag Jonathan around and introduce him to anyone who was a somebody. There was a point where Jonathan did his best to sleep away from Thomas, only finding the chance when Thomas pregnant wife decided to show up. Jonathan moved away, but soon enough found himself in front of Ms. Porthaven, the host of today’s gathering. He greeted her with a bow and smiled as they started to talk. The woman was pleased that Jonathan had the time to come and to his sadness she started to go on about his mother. That was one thing he forgot, that the host had known his mother back when he was younger, now all Jonathan wanted to do was go home.
Before he could take his leave his attention was stolen by a woman he did not know. She tapped him on the shoulder and he turned to see a beautiful blonde who seemed nice enough. Before Jonathan could speak up, Thomas came over with his wife clinging to his arm. “Looks like Claudia’s at it again! Jonathan, meet the most sociable person at this party, miss. Claudia Rousseau” Jonathan eyed his old friend, the guy was just too comfortable with people. Jonathan smiled at Claudia and gave a small bow as he introduced himself. “Jonathan Kendrick, it is a pleasure to meet you miss. Rousseau.” Her last name sounded french, which made Jonathan’s life a bit easier. He knew french and was well verse on the language so he hoped that he did well when saying her name.
Thomas continued to put his two sense in, somehow deciding that Jonathan could not be left to speak to a pretty lady on his own. “Claudia, I think you might have met his father before, our boy here is son to none other than Howard Kendrick. You know, that guy that has some high paying government job.. umm what was it again John?” Jonathan really was not a fan of just how much people loved to talk about his father, but he wasn’t going to stop Thomas, he would just nod and agree. ”He’s a financial manager.” Which meant a lot to some people, but for Jonathan it only meant that the man was never home and aways away in washington working. Jonathan took a step back from Claudia, trying to make it look natural, she was too close, and for a guy like himself, he did not feel comfortable with a such a pretty woman so close.

Just when she thought things were going to go well. Inwardly sighing Claudia chuckled at the couple and dipped her head slightly in thanks for the compliment. It was only polite. Though she couldn't deny the fact that she wanted to get rid of them as soon as possible. Nothing cockblocks more than other couples. With a demure smile on her lips she turned her attention to her true target of the night who already had his head down in a bow. Well isn't he a Prince Charming. "Jonathan." she said softly. It really did roll off the tongue. That wasn't what pleased her most so far.
He didn't butcher her last name. Claudia was taken aback by the complete lack of butchery of her name. Most Americans made like they were coughing up a ball of sandpaper, but he made it sound so beautiful like it was meant to be. "Please, Claudia is fine." She brought drink up to her lips and took one sip. Moments later she locked eyes with Jonathan and slowly licked her bottom lip. Claudia held his gaze for only an instant for looking away. She titled her head slightly to the side and turned her body away with a quiet hum. Her second of entertainment was over though. As the expecting couple were off again. She couldn't even leave her inner distaste at sighing alone. A brief glance at her wine glass told her that she was going to need a lot more. Claudia was inwardly rolling her eyes instead. It more accurately portrayed her current state of mind. Her eyes glazed over, like they usually did when she didn't care about the conversation, and she decided to let her mind wander to more interesting things. Sad to say, those interesting things just happened to be coming out of Thomas' mouth. He came from money. Marvelous, just marvelous. The name was familiar but where she had heard it from escapes her. "I believe we've spoken on occasion. He never mentioned he had such a charming son but then again it was always business." The revelation actually caused a mix of emotions in her. She was actually unsure whether to be happy or angry that she didn't know a rich man had a son her age. And to think she thought she was up to date with these things. As much as she wanted to scold herself for being so out of the loop but she was more taken by the step back Jonathan had taken. Poor boy, he must feel like such a third wheel. Claudia dipped into her French momentarily hoping that he could understand her. "Do you speak French?" The words came out more naturally than her English did, not to say her English was bad in any way. "I was hoping you did so I could ask how you got Thomas so attached?" She fluttered her lashes softly before looking at him through half-lidded eyes. There was the small possibility that she was pushing the man too far but it would be rude to outright rebuff her advances so it was nothing she couldn't recover from. It would be useful to know how far he'd let her push him anyway. If they ever happened to run into each other which, if Claudia had anything to do with it, they surely will. He was too tempting to let go run off. With an eyebrow slightly arched upward, she took another slight step forward. "Is he afraid you can't talk to a woman," This could actually be fun. "Mr. Kendrick." she purred before returning to her previous spot and smiling again at Thomas and his wife. At least she could assume they didn't speak French. It was quite a relief, she didn't really need her behavior for lack of better word spreading around the place. It wasn't a tightly kept secret that she was a little on the promiscuous side but her life behind door is for her knowing alone. Claudia didn't want them getting suspicious though. "I do hope the pregnancy is going well." What women doesn't love to talk about her child? She didn't mind children as much as she didn't want children, not yet anyway. Her eyes nonetheless softened slightly as she laid her gaze upon the woman's swollen stomach. Text in bold is English Text in italics are in French21st May sometime in the night. ”Claudia? Very well if you insist.” Jonathan was the polite type and always made a habit to keeping with last names, but if she wanted him to call her by her first name then he would do as she asked. When she locked her gaze with his Jonathan felt intimidated at first, but smiled at her nonetheless. He wasn’t surprised that Claudia knew his father, even if it was just in passing. He kept his comments to himself, but knew that his father had no reason to mention him. Jonathan was a bit of a let down, so the man hardly spoke about Jonathan unless someone asked first. Then the tale was all different, with his father using half truths and lies to keep Jonathan from sounding like a useless welp.
Jonathan couldn’t blame his father though, it was his own fault that he never did anything his father wanted. Jonathan was well bred and educated, but did not want to follow his father’s will. Jonathan wanted to live his way, free and enjoying every moment of what life he had left. Jonathan was taken off guard when Claudia spoke to him in french, but returned with an answer in the same language. ”Yes, in fact I can speak French, Spanish, and Italian. I have not spoken in a while, but my mother was French/Italian so I learned from her.” He did well, although his speak showed that he really did not get the time to practice, he still knew all his words and spoke them correctly.
”Yes my friend can be a bit much, but he only wishes the best for me.” Jonathan relied a lot on his friend Thomas, mostly to save him for situations that called for too much attention. Jonathan was not a fan of being the center of attention, so Thomas did well to always save Jonathan. His body froze as Claudia stepped closer, it would be rude to move away, so he didn’t. Still he wanted to run away, like a deer in headlights he was trapped. ”I can, just well..” His eyes looked away from her nervously. ”Jonathan, please call me Jonathan.” Mr. Kendrick made him think of his father, so he rather not be called by his last name if he could help it.
Thomas was the first to speak up, rather excited for his new child. “Sarah and I are extremely excited for our first child.” His wife only nodded and placed her hands over her stomach. Jonathan couldn’t help but notice how round the woman was and make a note that she looked like she would pop any day now. Sarah then added her own comment, smiling with so much joy. “This little one is not making it easy, but I hope that she or he will be very healthy and happy when born.”
”Oh thats right! Your waiting till after the baby is born to find out the gender, how exciting!” Jonathan couldn’t hide the happiness he felt for his two friends, they meant a lot to him, and he of course loved children. ”You better let me know the moment it happens.” Jonathan did notice Claudia’s gaze and decided to ask a simple question. ”Do you like children?” Not that he planned on knocking her up or anything, but he did love to meet people that enjoyed kids as much as he did.
