Got you wrapped around my finger babe You can count on me to misbehave
This was just downright pathetic. She barely knew where she was for God's sake. Her thoughts were consumed with annoying sniffles, a runny nose and blackspot inducing headaches. Being sick was the only excuse she had for living the house the way she looked. Sweat pants, she was wearing sweat pants. She never wore pants! Claudia was so torn between weeping over her disgusting appearance and weeping over the fact that she could barely walk in a straight line. She wasn't supposed to feel this woozy right? Claudia didn't really have time to answer her own question before falling up against the motion sensitive doors of Walmart. They sold medicine right? The door refused to open for reasons beyond her so she backed up a few steps and wobbled back in. The camera caught sight of her this time because the doors flew open releasing a gush of cold air. It smacked her in the face and she let out a sigh of relief as it cooled her flushed face. She blinked her eyes slowly and gazed around the store, trying to read the signs hanging high up in the air. The letters seemed to blur together the more she tried to read them so she gave up on that pursuit. Her gut usually never failed her so might as well use it now. She shuffled her way over the tiled floor and peered down the long aisles in front of her. Which way had medicine? Did they even sell medicine here? Did she already ask herself that? Why was she asking herself so many questions? Why was she still walking? Claudia jolted to a stop stared down at the guy she ran into. How did she even get her? She opened her mouth to apologize but instead brought up her forearm to cover a cough erupting from her throat. After a short fit she blinked once more and tried to continue on with the sorry she meant to give. That again was met with another fit of coughs only broken apart by body-shaking sneezes. The words 'I'm sorry' seemed to be some sort of trigger and she decided that it wasn't even worth it. When her lungs finally came to the decision not to cough themselves out of her body Claudia's glazed eyes stared blankly at the shelf behind him. A pillow would definitely be nice now and maybe some oblong tea. First things first, "Do you know," Her eyes twitched slightly at the sound of her nasally voice but she forced herself on. "where the cough medicine is?"9th May in the morning/LAIKA OF GS!

alec matthews (Claudia) (439 words) (yay new friends) Ever since he had been "let go", Alec had found himself without a job. It wasn't so bad, really, but he still missed the money that he got from working. For a while he had planned to spend it on classes so he could enroll in August and start up school. Still, it wasn't like he was going hungry or anything. He had recently moved back in with his dad (only a few days after moving in with Lucas, mind you) and was currently looking for another job. He really didn't think he would be able to get one, but he had to try. There was no telling what creepy-crawly would show up. Alec decided that even through all of this crap, he had to do something to keep his mind occupied. That's how he had been handling things; if he didn't stay busy, his mind would wander. And when his mind wandered, he thought of many, many bad things. So he decided that instead of thinking about bad things, he would just get out and do something!
But what?
Well, he was hungry and his dad had given him some money to go shopping for groceries, so Alec found himself walking back into the double doors of his familiar place of work: Walmart. His dad hadn't been feeling well lately so Alec thought it might be best to take a stroll down the wonderful aisle of cough medicine. There he managed to see a young woman that looked awfully sick. She was dressed in sweat pants, which Alec didn't mind, but she looked downright sad. The teen honestly felt bad for her, so he decided to help her...without getting too close, of course. He could see her trying to speak to a man, but somewhere in between the coughs and sneezes he disappeared, leaving no trace of his existence. The woman turned to Alec, probably in hopes of getting assistance, and who was he to turn a blind eye to someone in need?
He was smiling, something that he hadn't done in what seemed like a while, but he hoped that she didn't take it the wrong way. He wasn't smiling at her apparent torture - he was just feeling alright, for the first time in a while. "Sure, it's right here." Alec reached up and picked up a bottle of name-brand cough syrup, looking at it for a moment before deciding that it was appropriate. "It's the name brand, which will probably be better if you've got the money for it. Is there anything else you might need? I'm so sorry to see that you're sick."

Claudia slowly turned toward the shelf and her mouth formed an 'o'. When did that get there? She smiled widely and took the syrup from the very nice boy who decided to help her. With it cradled to her chest Claudia patted his head. "Thank you." she murmured. At least she could get that out without dying. She was about to turn on her merry back into the store to go shopping but the her good Samaritan was still talking. This time Claudia actually paid attention to the person. He was nice, too nice. Claudia squinted at him and leaned in getting a good look at his face just in case he decided to get frisky. Her staring didn't last longer than a second because she jumped back with cough. "If I walk with you, will I end up raped and unconscious in an alley?" She might as well get that question out of the way before she went around with this guy. Too many bad things happen in the news to women letting people help with their groceries. Oh well, it wouldn't happen to her. Claudia shrugged and let her eyes fall shut as she yawned. She turned around and dragged herself towards the back of the store. "I usually don't go shopping for myself but," Was he coming? With a groan she turned her head over her shoulder and blew air to get rid of the hair blocking her view. She waved her arm at him beckoning to join her on her journey to the tea section. "But…. actually I don't remember why I didn't ask someone to do this." She let out a small laugh and tapped her head. "Well that wasn't smart." As she walked her head rolled from side to side staring at the shelves at either side of her. "I need honey, I like honey, do they have honey?" she smiled. "Oh, and ginger. I need ginger too, cinnamon also." She pursed her lips in thought and clapped her hands together. "Tea. Where's the tea?"9th May in the morningLAIKA OF GS!

alec matthews Alec always viewed himself as an odd one. No, really - he was so awkward it was ridiculous. There was something about this girl that made him rethink it, but it was definitely...unique. A quality that he always liked. When she asked if he planned to rape her, Alec was almost offended. Then he realized that, while she may have been very serious and straight to the point, she didn't look like she was in her right mind anyway. He sighed in an unusually heavy manner and eyed her suspiciously, trying to show that he was being overly dramatic on purpose.
"Well, considering that you're about as tall as an amazon princess...er, wait that's not what I meant." Oops. That didn't exaclty come out the way he intended for it to. "What I meant was that you're so much taller and probably stronger than little old me - I doubt I could force you to do anything." And that was the honest truth, only painted in a much better way than previously. Alec only hoped that his cheeks weren't betraying him right now with their usual shade of pink.
He liked her sense of humor. It reminded him of himself, actually. He couldn't help but to think of Lucas too, which elicited a warm smile across his face. He needed to hear from that man, and he hoped it would be soon! But she seemed so...uncharacteristically amusing to be around. Alec really enjoyed that quality, and that's only another reason that he found himself side-by-side with the very sick, pretty lady.
In just a few moments Alec discovered that they were going to the tea section. To be perfectly honest, the teen didn't know all that much about tea. The most he knew was that people drank it to relax or when they had some sort of special occasion, which was probably completely wrong too. He was knowledgable enough to know where the honey was, and he displayed his skills proudly. "The honey should be riiiiiight...here." In a quick swipe, Alec reached over and grabbed some honey from the shelf. "I don't know about ginger. Guess we can ask someone...or look. What do you want to do?"

She usually didn't do her own grocery shopping. Actually the only type of shopping she actually did was shopping for herself; clothes, shoes, jewelry and her favorite most definitely was make-up. So of course she didn't have a very good idea of how these places worked. Guessing from the signs she couldn't bother herself to read it worked somewhat like a library. Not that, that helped very much since libraries were never very organized. Claudia let out a happy squeal and patted the dark-haired boy next to her. Dark hair? He had nice dark hair. "Darth Vader!" she called out pinching his cheek. What a cute little thing. "Thanks for the honey Darth." For reasons beyond her that made her laugh internally. Maybe instead of Darth she should call him Honey, she thought. That would fit his squishy face too. "Let's go on a scavenger hunt." With honey in one hand Claudia linked arms with her shorter partner in shopping and began to drag him towards the end of the aisle. "I wonder how big this place is." It seemed to go on forever and ever and ever and ever. She suddenly jolted to a stop and slapped a hand over her mouth. It couldn't be? Claudia sprinted to a glass case and pressed her face up against the screen. They were so pretty! She stared wide-eyed at the different delicacies rotating on their pretty metal pedestals. Cakes with strawberries, chocolate cakes covered in fudge and there were millions of cupcakes. They had to buy one. It was completely totally needed. Sniffling slightly she pulled out her wallet which she had sorta forgotten about. Fumbling with the card she smiled up at the grimacing baker. She coughed slightly before speaking. "Darth." she called out. "Darth." Placing her palm against the case and let it slide over the cakes only centimeters away. "What do you want to buy dearest Darth?" Claudia liked all types of sweets but chocolate was her favorite by far especially when it was dripped on ski- She stopped herself before her fantasies got anymore detailed. The crying of babies in the background didn't help either. 9th May in the morningLAIKA OF GS!

alec matthews Not fully understanding what was going on was probably an understatement. Alec was so very confused at this point. He didn't mind helping the pretty lady, and he even didn't mind it when she locked arms awkwardly with him and began to drag him along. But...she was giving him such a weird nickname. How was he supposed to tell her that this was ridiculously weird? This teenager was fully aware of how awkward he could be at times, but honestly he had met his match: this chick was far more than your ordinary awkward. She was a special kind of awkward born only once every 100 years, the kind of awkward that no one could ignore.
But for some reason, Alec found himself amused and something else that he hadn't really felt in a few days. Was he attracted to her? This was pretty strange since he hadn't really felt this way around anyone else except for Lucas, and even then it was so much different. With Lucas, he felt safe. He felt secure, like he could live life the way he wanted without fear. Like he could make it out of any situation alive, which was a word he found himself hoping to keep a firm grasp on.
This woman made him feel differently. He liked being around her and he liked her weird sense of humor. He liked the fact that she was not afraid of being herself. The only problem with this situation was that Alec wondered if this was who she really was. She was most definitely sick, so was she acting ridiculously because of that, or was she just normally this interesting? Chances were slim that Alec would be seeing her again, so he decided to just go one step at a time and see where things took them.
And apparently they were heading into the direction of the bakery.
He hesitated for a moment, wondering if he should offer to buy his own. She seemed all to ready to buy the entire display of pastries, and he didn't want to impose on a lady who was clearly not feeling herself. Then again he also didn't want to turn down sweets. "Ummmm how about the one that looks like a cream cheese danish? That looks good. Since I see that you've given me a nickname..." Alec turned and looked at the sick woman, smiling and hoping to elicit a "normal" response this time. "What is your name? I'm Alec, by the way, but Darth works too I guess..."

Got you wrapped around my finger babe You can count on me to misbehave
Her vision was quite fuzzy and danced between completely clear and distractingly blurry. She blinked rapidly to try and get rid of what she thought was a film over her eyes. How odd. Eventually she did catch sight of the dish Darth was talking about and she nodded her head with approval. Claudia popped her head over the counter and jabbed her finger at the pastry in the case. "That one." She sniffled slightly and turned her head back to Darth, she was slightly surprised at what he asked. It seemed out of the blue but he had to ask eventually. Though she couldn't hide the scrunching up of her nose at Darth's real name. It was too normal for her taste. "I think I'm gonna stick with Darth." She poked him in the forehead and grinned. "It's something that only I can call you. It's special." With that she turned around to stare at the frowning lady behind the counter. She should smile more, that would make that giant mole on her face look better. Claudia brought her arm back over her face and sneezed repeatedly. Each one nearly knocked her off her feet. She groaned before reaching out to grab her cake. But she stopped half-way. She couldn't forget the money. Claudia stuffed her hands into her pocket and pulled out a fifty or at she thought it was a fifty. It could have a been a hundred for all she knew. Claudia waved her hand absent-mindedly and mumbled, "Keep the change." Before she took her boxed cake and faced Alec. "I completely forgot!" She wanted to slap her forehead but that would mean letting go of her soon to be eaten food. "Claudia. My name is Claudia but you," Stepping in just a little closer to him Claudia bent down to his level till they were nearly eye to eye. "Can call me whatever you like." That's when she remembered. She really should pay attention more. "Hold this for me okay Darthy-poo?" Not bothering to wait for an answer she thrusted her cake into Alec's arms. With that she ran back to the bakery and picked up the honey she had dropped. Claudia couldn't remember when she dropped it. She couldn't really remember holding it either and when did her head start to hurt so bad? This was just a very bad day. Pouting slightly Claudia made her way back to Alec and tugged on his shirt. "Darth," she whined. "Can we leave? I don't feel good." Wait, had he even come with her. Another wave of pain came and washed the useless thought away. Well he was leaving with her unless he wants her to drag him by his ankles. 9th May in the morningLAIKA OF GS!

alec matthews This day was getting weirder and weirder. The already mentally scarred teenager was going to be worse off after meeting with this woman. She was absolutely nuts... Alec just knew she should probably be hospitalized because she was quite delirious. But somehow Alec enjoyed the attention; in fact, he seemed to be getting less and less of that lately with Lucas doing only God knows what. So he enjoyed this attention and silently prayed that he would not get sick, because Claudia was leaning in awfully close and forcing him to hold her delicious cake.
Well, at least he caught her name. And now he had gone from Darth to Darthy-poo. It was somewhat endearing but also a little insulting. He wasn't a four year old, you know, but he knew better than to open his mouth and object. She seemed set in her ways and no word of man would provide any resistance that would be semi worthwhile. And then she went and lost her honey! Without saying anything, Alec followed behind the young woman to make sure she didn't get lost. In her state, it was pretty clear she could make one wrong turn and believe she was in another country altogether.
After being satisfied that she found her honey, he quickly returned to the spot he was standing at so that she never noticed he left. She was asking if they could leave...did she realize that he hadn't come with her, or that he wasn't the one keeping her from leaving? "Well, I guess so. I mean you came here alone and I just figured I would help out. I can help you carry the stuff to the checkouts if you want." Alec already knew the answer to this, so instead of waiting for her response, he started toward the checkout with cold medicine and pastries in his hands.

With one hand latched on rather tightly to Alec's shirt Claudia massaged her throbbing temples. Being sick was terrible. It was very rare for her to feel unwell and even rarer for it to be this severe. She didn't intend on going to a doctor though. There's no point. This wasn't going to kill her. It was nothing more than a very bad flu of some sort. So she just resigned herself to squeezing her eyes tightly together in concentration. If she could just focus on something other than the pain behind her eyes everything would be fin. The headache might have actually done her some good. At least now she could for coherent thoughts. Inhaling deeply, she cleared her throat and tried to gain as much composure as possible. The red tint to her cheeks could either be summed up to her persistent fever or the embarrassment of her behavior. She just wanted to bury herself in the ground but she was going to save face for this. If she played the sick card and just kept up the delirious charade. This performance better earn her actress of the year. What sounded crazy? Well she couldn't overdo it or else Alec might just call the cops on her. Her father would not be pleased to find out that she just stuck in a psychiatric hospital. "Darthy-poo, does that mean you'll leave me here by myself, defenseless, and confused, and sick, and sad, and lonely." She sniffled slightly to add to her pity party and chocked down the softest of sobs. Claudia let go of Alec's shirt and shuffled off. "So cruel." she cried out. Of course, she didn't wander off too far. Not only did he have her food but she had to give him a chance to chase after her. He better anyway. 9th May in the morningLAIKA OF GS!

alec matthews Now things were just starting to spiral out of control. Well, maybe just a little bit. Alec could honestly say that by now he was starting to wonder about her. She was being overly dramatic and cute and helpless. The guy knew she was sick, but dang...he couldn't imagine what she was like when she was well. In all honesty, though, he would like to get to know her a little better. After all, she was being super friendly. Clingy, perhaps, but friendly nonetheless. And it was all this friendliness that was really attracting the teenager to her.
"Wait - uhhhhh no I didn't plan to leave you all alone. I mean I can call a taxi for you or..." Don't do it, Alec. Don't do it. There's no reason to go home with her. You have no idea where she lives, if she is married, or if anything else might happen that most definitely shouldn't. You can help her in other ways, by making sure she gets home, but that does not mean you have to go home with her.
"I can escort you home too, I suppose...I mean if you really want..." Well that was dumb... Alec honestly wanted to make sure she got home okay, but it wasn't his responsibility. He couldn't help but feeling the urge to help out with ensuring she got home alright. Maybe it was the big heart in him or maybe he was secretly loving the attention. Whatever the case was, he decided he would offer to help her get home.
Her rather-firm grip on Alec's shirt was finally relinquished, but he followed after her anyway. Whether he felt sorry for her or not, he was not about to pay for any of this stuff. The pastries were already taken care of, so that was no big deal, but he was not about to use what little bit of money he had left to pay for medicine and honey for some random stranger he had never met. He hoped that she wasn't expecting payment, but with her in this awkward state there was no telling what would happen next...

He can't be serious. There was the possibility that the pounding in her head messed with her hearing but that was highly unlikely. Honestly, if the kid was a few years older and she wasn't sick Claudia would be more then happy to have a nice guy take her home. But that's not how life works or well not for her. Instead she gets teenagers who are nicer than most men her age and days like this where she's practically sneezing out brain matter. It's truly her lucky day. But she just couldn't do this anymore. Claudia actually kind of feels bad for the boy. Too nice for his own good. He deserved to see her sane even for a little while. Alec's earned it. She blew out a puff of air and pushed her hair back. It did cross her mind that she might make him mad. It's not like she walked in, not that she remembered walking in, and decided to mess with the guy. Claudia definitely felt bad now. She couldn't let this go on any longer. Speeding up her steps she cut in front of Alec and stopping him by holding up her arms. "You don't have to walk me home," she said. Her brows furrowed and she glanced to the side. "Alec." she finished off. That was the first time she had used his name and her previous dislike of it eased slightly. It was plain but at least you couldn't mess it up like hers. A wave of pain hit her and she closed her eyes again. "Dammit." she mumbled. In her agony Claudia marched forward and snatched her groceries from Alec's arms. "Why can't you be six years older? I wouldn't be hesitating with this escorting me home idea." She blamed society and then she could probably fit her morals somewhere in there. Why is an older woman with a younger man viewed as odd? Her mind is beginning to wander. Claudia inched her way towards Alec and kissed her fingers before pressing it to his forehead. "You're very sweet, mon petit ami." She stepped out to his side and offered him her arm. alec matthews Those previous thoughts of this weird lady instantly vanished. Alec was rather stunned once she finally begun to use his name; it was mostly due to the fact that she hadn't used it any before. It seemed that now she was a bit more serious and a little less delirious. He honestly didn't know how to react when she kissed her fingers and pressed them against his forehead. If there was any doubt that she was leading him on, it had melted away. This is a really nice person...now I really do want to walk her home. I mean it's not like I've got anything to do. He didn't want to be intrusive or anything, but he also wanted to keep being a gentleman.
"While I don't have to, I think I really would like to. I've got nowhere important to be, and you look like you're in no shape to travel long distances alone. No offense." He added that last part quickly, hoping that he wouldn't be stepping on her toes or anything. "I might be turning 19 in July, but I still look like I'm 13...Guess it's a good thing to look so young though, right?" He smiled warmly at her, hoping to direct the conversation to a more positive place.
As she reached out, Alec took his arm and wrapped it around her's, accepting her offer to walk her outside. "Thanks. You're a very nice person as well. And it would be my pleasure to help!" What he also wanted to tell her was that she was very pretty and that he hoped one day she would be able to find a gentleman her age that would treat her like a lady should be treated. Instead, he stuck with something much more generic. "And your cold, too. Rest up and drink plenty of liquids."

Nice? She couldn't understand why that seemed to catch her attention. It wasn't like she never got complimented but they were a bit more interesting if that was even the right word. But it wasn't unappreciated. He was actually quite sweet for saying what he did. Though she did have to agree with like 'look like I'm 13' comment. She would have gone with 14 but he was close. Claudia was never the one to feel like she owed someone something. Debts were never her thing. 'I'll give you my number." she said tugging him slightly in the direction she remembered the registers being. A wave of pain hit her again and she flinched but flashed a smile in his direction a moment later. "You call me whenever you need something," Claudia winked at him before continuing. "Or if you want to hang out again when I'm not sick." It didn't take surprisingly long for them to end up in line. For a place so big, you could get around rather easily. She could see how people might actually enjoy going on these little shopping trips. While she wouldn't be doing this again anytime soon, she wouldn't mind if Alec came with her again. As they fell into line she took back her arm and turned towards her shopping companion. "You promise to call okay? If I even manage to find the Fountain of Youth and turn myself 18 you'll be the first person I look for." She placed her arms on his shoulders and pulled him into a hug. "It was nice meeting you, Alec" Leaning back she sniffled slightly. Yep, she hates being sick except maybe just this one time will be an exception. 9th May in the morningLAIKA OF GS!

alec matthews For the first time since dealing with the disappearance of Lucas, Alec was feeling wanted again. It was a welcome feeling, too. All he could do was to grin at the woman beside him, hoping that he wasn't coming off as too flirty or too nerdy or too anything really. For some odd reason, he wanted to go home and comb his hair, fix his clothes, brush his teeth, and just look nice. He wanted to show her that he could be mature, unlike most 18 year olds that went to the clubs and partied all the time or did drugs. Alec was never interested in any of that, and he hoped that it would score him points with this young woman.
When she began to give her phone number, Alec jerked his phone out from his pocket and punched in the number quickly, saving it under Claudia for the time being. Later he would add a last name. He beamed at her and managed to sputter out "T-thanks! I would love to do you sometime. I MEAN..." Oh no. Here came the awkward. Thinking quickly, he managed to correct himself to "I'd love to hang out." but it was already too late. He just hoped Claudia didn't think him a pervert for his accidental slip, especially when sex wasn't even on his conscious mind.
Reaching out, he hugged Claudia and laid his head on her shoulder for that split second. It felt wonderful to have someone's arms around him, even if just for a fleeting moment. He made sure to latch onto her and hug her tightly, enjoying the warm feeling of being next to another person. "I've enjoyed it too. I'll be sure to give you a call." With that, he turned around and quickly walked away, grin plastered on his face with reddened cheeks. He really liked that woman...and he would be giving her a call. Soon.
