Most people would think walking around by yourself late at night was a bad idea.
Kris was not one of these people.
Sometimes, you just had to get out of the house and be by yourself for a while. To just walk without any real direction or place in mind, because if you stood still for even a second longer it'd be a second too long, and then you'd explode. Not that Kris would explode, or anything like that, but she felt like she might if she didn't get out for a while. Walking had always been her preferred method of dealing with crap; she could walk for hours at a time, if she had the time and the energy. Night or early in the morning were the best times to go- she especially loved early morning walks. She wasn't a morning person by any stretch of the imagination, but sometimes, when she hadn't gotten a lot of sleep the night before, she'd wake up so early that she could just walk for a while. At those times, there was hardly anyone around, and she could pretend she was the only person awake in the world...
It was still pretty early in the evening for the streets to be empty, though, so she couldn't play pretend at the moment. But she couldn't wait another hour to go out; if she had waited any longer, she might have started doing something she'd really regret. Like playing Neopets. She'd rather not get stuck obsessively playing the games in Faerieland tonight, kthnx.
Although playing the games in Faerieland would have been decidedly safer. More frustrating, sure, but safer. Especially since she wouldn't have taken a wrong turn somewhere and ended up in a part of town she didn't recognize. See, Kristen, this is what you get for not paying attention while you walk. She bit her lip as she checked her phone again, waiting for her maps app to load. It seemed like it had decided to take a lunch break, however, since it was taking a thousand years to tell her where she was. The brunette sighed, then slipped her phone in her pocket. She'd just keep walking for now; as long as she didn't go too far, she'd still be able to find her way back. She tightened her grip on her bag's strap, and-
Tripped on a crack in the sidewalk. Haha, great. She just barely managed to right herself before she ate pavement, but that didn't stop a slight blush from dusting her cheeks. It's okay, no one saw that, just keep walking and try not to think about it too much. (Unbeknownst to her, her phone slipped out of her pocket and landed on the concrete. Good job, Kristen.)

To say that Vincenzo was excited about starting work tomorrow may have been a bit of an understatement. He personally hated all the down time he had in the past few days, relaxing was not his style and he was starting to get antsy. Vincenzo was the working type, he liked to stay busy whether it be going over work, reading a book, working out, as long as he kept moving things were good. All his moving boxes were already unpacked, he already went to the gym this week, he was running out of things to do. What made things worse was that even with the day getting later he had no intention of sleeping anytime soon. His mind was fully away, maybe due to that coffee he had earlier today. Whatever the case was Vincenzo at some point found himself outside, off looking for something to do. Really anything would be fine, he even decided to just take a nice long was without his car, something he’d probably regret later.
Vincenzo did not know the area perfectly, but he had an idea of the direction back to his apartment, which was good enough for himself. As long as he could find his way back later everything would be just fine. He continued on his walk, not really expecting to see much. Sure he passed by a few people here and there, but overall the evening was fairly quiet. There was one point where Vincenzo paused in his travels, he couldn’t help but stop as he watched a young lady almost trip face first into the ground. Luckily she did save herself from the fall, when had Vincenzo look away to continue his walk, but he had to take a double take when he realized the woman had dropped her phone. He waited for a second to see if she would notice, but when the girl did not turn back Vincenzo decided to cross over and pick up the phone. He was a cop, but in all fairness being nice to others was just bred into him, and since the girl seemed harmless enough he thought that she would been better off finding her phone now then later.
He picked up the phone and followed her, she had made quite a distance between them before he had grabbed the phone. So Vincenzo had to jog over to catch up to her, he did not mean to be frightening in anyway, all he had wanted to do was give her back her phone. He caught up and tapped her shoulder with her phone in hand. “Miss?”

Oh god, were those footsteps running up behind her?
Kris paused for a step, straining to hear whether she was just hearing things or not. But nope, those were definitely footsteps; someone was running towards her. Her stomach dropped as the realization hit her. Okay, breathe and keep walking, it might just be someone on a jog! Or they're running late to an appointment! There was a good chance they weren't going to stab her and steal her crap or anything, so she was just overreacting. As long as she kept walking, it'd be totally fine.
But what if they were going to stab her and steal her crap? She didn't even have a lot of crap with her, not like she usually did; she had traded in her bigger bag for a smaller purse, just big enough to hold one or two things. Like, y'know, pepper spray. She had bought it completely as a precaution, for a just in case scenario. She hadn't gotten into any real trouble since she got here, but what if now...
The footsteps were getting closer. Ahhh craaaap okay, chill out. Just keep walking, they're probably going to run right past you or even cross the street, but there's no way in hell they're actually running towards you, stop being so paranoid about everything and just calm down already-
Someone tapped her on the shoulder.
She didn't actually wait for anything else- she was so jumped on nerves as is, the only obvious course of action was to reach into her purse and whip out her pepper spray. And, uh, spray the nice man in the face. Before she could realize he was just trying to return her phone to her and be a Good Samaritan and all that jazz. Ahaha woops.
WOOPS.

Vincenzo had little time to react as the young women decided to turn and spray him with the pepper spray. The most he did was close his eyes and move his head away from the spray. Needless to say the burning feeling that followed after was not a good one, but something Vincenzo was strangely enough used to the feeling. Becoming a police officer meant that he did have some moments of interesting training. The pain was still the same, but he was trained to work pass that, to blink a few times to cause tearing in the eyes. Any liquid was good to help with relieving the effects of pepper spray, though Vincenzo really wished he had a bottle of water near by. He made a few sounds to illustrate the pain that he was in.
“I was just trying to return this.” He reached out his hand where he only could guess Kristen was standing. After all he was a little blind at the moment dealing with the stinging in his eyes. He coughed a few times, pepper spray was no joke and the welder really needed to be more careful. Pepper spray was good for self defense but could be dangerous if used wrongly. He would lecture in a moment, after he caught his breath and could see again. All he could do now was cough, blink, remain calm and wait for the worse of the effects to die down on their own. Then once he returned this phone and lectured this young woman he needed to go find some water.

Kristen was totally ready to book it once she was sure she got him. That is, until she noticed what he was holding in his hand, and realization hit her like a ton of bricks. Oh shit, was that-
Oh.
Shit.
She immediately froze, eyes wide in shock. That was her phone, wasn't it? She glanced down at where her phone should have been, only to find that, no, it definitely wasn't there. That was most definitely her phone. And she definitely just pepper sprayed this poor guy in the face for trying to be nice and give it back to her. Oh god, of all the stupid things she had ever done, this took the cake. Well first things first, she could apologize to him...
"Oh my god, I'm so, so, so, so sorry, I didn't-" She stopped, a worried frown creasing her brow as she swallowed down the lump in her throat. She had just reacted without thinking, and look what happened- she sprayed some innocent dude in the face. Really freaking good job, Kristen, A+. She slipped the can back in her bag, before clasping her hands together to stop them from trembling. She felt so overwhelmingly guilty about this, she didn't know what to do or say at all. How do you even begin to apologize for this?
Calm down, breathe, it was an accident. She took a deep breath, before saying, once again, "I'm so sorry about that, I really am." She paused, bit her lip, and then asked, slowly, "Are you, umm, okay?" She winced at that; no, he was perfectly fine. He was obviously right as rain, after what just happened. What a great question, Kristen, holy shit was she on a roll today or what?

Great now the girl was in a panic, something Vincenzo really could not deal with right now. “It’s fine” No it wasn't, but maybe if he told her that the girl would calm down. Vincenzo would not be leaving without lecturing her, but first he needed to get her calm and recover from the pain of the pepper spray. No matter what training he had it was hard to get over the burning and other symptoms that pepper spray caused.
The worse of it was the coughing, pepper spray was made into a spray because not only did it affect the skin, but if the fumes got into your lungs it made breathing hard. Vincenzo was just lucky that he stayed calm and continued to breath, otherwise he could have easily passed out from shortness of breath. He could only imagine how this would have been for someone that could have possibly had asthma, this was a point he really needed to bring up with the young woman.
”Listen its ok I get it, you got scared, just, do you have any water?” It was a long shot but he thought he might as well ask. Water was good for washing out the pepper spray from the skin and eyes. Though until he got water all he really could do was keep calm, blink and wait.

He said it was fine, but it was clear to Kris that it definitely wasn't fine. It was nice of him to say so, though? Which only made her feel even worse about the situation. If she had just stopped first instead of freaking out and spraying him with pepper spray... well, what's done is done, right? It wasn't like she could go back in time and stop herself from fucking up, so the most she could do was suck it up and apologize- which she had already done haha woops.
Kris bit her lip as she tried to think of something. What if he had to go to the hospital? Didn't some people have to go after coming in contact with pepper spray? He was coughing an awful lot too, what if he was allergic to pepper spray what if he died oh no oh no oh no-
She blinked in surprise at his request for water. Water...? "Ah, yeah, I do-" She fumbled with her bag for a moment, before pulling out an unopened bottle of water and handing it to him. Mental pat on the back for always carrying all kinds of crap in her bag with her wherever she went. Who would have thought it'd actually come in handy for once?

Even though he tried to convince the woman that everything was fine, he was sadly lying. The string was nothing to mess with, and he was having trouble opening his eyes because of the burning feeling the pepper spray caused. Luckily for Vincenzo the women did have a bottle of water on her, be thankful for small mercies.
"Thanks" He took the bottle of water from her and tilted his head back so that he could run the water over his eyes. He did this slowly, not talking as he focused on just getting his eyes to open, and using the water to calm the sting. Once all the water was missing from the bottle, he dropped it on the floor. If he remembered he would pick it up and throw it away later. Right now all he could worry about was being able to see again. He pulled up the bottom of his shirt and used it to dab at his eyes.
He did this carefully, knowing that when your pepper sprayed you never rub, only dab what you can. On any other day pulling up his shirt would have been a good way to show off his abs, but right now that was not his plan. ”Ok, I can almost see again, thats a good sign.” He let go of his shirt and blinked a few more times for good measure. ”Now miss, I understand that pepper spray should be carried for defencive purposes, but maybe next time you could be a little bit more careful on who you are spraying? In my experience, being tased would have been less painful than that.
