Reader stared at the door to Mrs. Vallencia's Spirital Guidance Clinic, or at least the foggy, greyed out version of it he saw. He was always annoyed at how she approached the art, and misconceptions that surround it. Stupid names like "spiritual guidance clinic" only made people take mediums less seriously then ever before. "Oh well, he sighed to himself, at least it get's me out of my room." His parents had recently taken to buying him quite a number of Luka Items, and he was feeling overwhelmed by it. He wanted to just stop. To just leave him alone! He was going blind and they were too worried about how much he loved them! Reader slammed his hand into the wall and drew in a sharp, shuddering breath. He needed to relax, there was no good working on the verge of a breakdown.
He slowly pushed the door open, the dim lights of the shop rendered him completely blind. He knew his eyes would never adjust to the lighting, the cones necessary for that task had long ago been eaten away. He shuddered at the thought, his own body consuming itself. The word consuming floated through his head over and over as he felt around for the counter. "We'll hello there, Reader." Said a sultry voice, the tone sounded like it belonged to a woman in her late forties, and smoked menthol cigarets. "Hello Mrs.Vallencia." He said softly as he felt her hand take the strap of his bag. His many pill bottles rattled around inside the bag, as did his cards. "Still more and more pills... It really does weaken your Aura child. Perhaps you should..." The medium stopped as a great wave of sadness washed over her young assistant's face.
He had just been to the hospital, and she was right. He was taking yet another pill. This one was supposed to ease the strain of the Cyclosporine on his stomach, maybe he'd be able to widen his diet soon... He really missed ice cream. "There... Lets just not talk about that, I'm sure I can assist with a reading. I promise." He said, his voice on the verge of cracking. He just needed to relax and not think about his problem. He was in a safer place. This was where he could see things no one else could, where vision didn't matter. That made him feel a little better.
"Well, child, you won't be helping me today, instead, you'll be helping your own clients!" Mrs.Vallencia said excitedly. "A few people called, and I felt you were ready to begin reading on your own!" She said as she pulled the box containing Reader's card from his bag, and placed it on the counter. She took the bag gently and put it in the small cubby under the counter as usual. Reader took his box, counting the pills he had taken in his head. Six....Seven. Yes, he had taken everything. He held the box close to his heart as he felt the menthol scented woman lead him towards the back of the shop.
Has she drew back the curtain, Reader was in shock... He could see the table. There was light! "I thought it might help if your reading area was well lit, I know my lighting preferences trouble you." She said as she watched Reader sit at the chair unaided. Above them was quiet a number of lights, arranged in circles, all of them pointing at the table and the chairs. "Th...thank you." He muttered, in sheer shock that she trusted him with clients, and even went as far as to do something that truly helped him. "They should be along any time now dear, I feel a curious aura approaching!" Mrs. Vallencia giggled with joy as she left Reader to attune to the area.

turn your kindness into strength | [cs=2] "Good work, Alphie."
"Thank you, Mr. Lhu," Alphard smiled pleasantly at the man, waving good-bye. "It was my pleasure." Alphard pushed the glass door outwards, listening to the pretty sound of bells jingling. It always pleased him to hear that sound every time he started work and then at the end of work. Alphard was could be pleased by the most trivial things. When he was smaller, if you gave him a sock, he would be entertained for hours. it was a mystery to his family, but they didn't mind it that much. After all, that just made him easier to handle. Not that he was a troublesome child. No, he was a little angel as a child. He was loved by his family and friends, and he loved everybody back. No wonder he grew up to be the pleasant man he was now. Of course, there were always those people who you couldn't please, no matter what you did for them. Even still, Alphard would persist in being kind to them, and generally being a good person. His favourite phrases were: "I'm sorry," and "It can't be helped." He also liked smiling, and had this uncanny ability to break tense scenes. He was a useful man in most aspects. Just don't ask him to do intense physical labour. He tended to be useless then.
Alphard moved along the wide side walk, whistling a cheery tune. The air around him was pink; it was almost as if you were instantly cheered up once you stood in his midst. It often took a long time for Alphard to get home, since he usually made numerous stops on the way. Usually because there's somebody in need. And then he made it worse, being the clumsy person he is. He would then proceed to fix the mistake he made, apologizing all the while, and then eventually they would reach a solution and just like that, one hour wasted.
Alphard spotted an elderly woman with a rather large plastic bag filled with a variety of groceries. He watched in horror as the lady tripped, spilling all of the bag's contents. "Oh my," he said, offering a hand to the lady. "Are you all right, ma'am?" The elderly woman obviously appreciated this notion, and replied: "What a fine young gentleman you are. Youngsters nowadays should take after you," she told him as she held his hand. Alphie smiled bashfully. "Thank you, ma'am. Now then, let's get this mess cleaned up." He grabbed the white plastic bag that was about to drift away in the wind and began to pick up the groceries, one by one. The elderly woman did the same, and even a few civilians walking along the same side walk stopped to help them. Eventually all the groceries were back in the bag. Alphard nodded towards the woman, and held out the plastic bag. As the woman reached for it, he dropped it a bit too early and the bag fell to the ground with a sickening thud, and the groceries spilled out again. "Oh dear, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to, honest. Here, I'll help you again," he got back on his knees and began to frantically pick them up again. What if the food became dirty and therefore unfit to eat? It would all be because of him. Guilt was plastered onto his face, but the old woman only smiled and shook her head. "Quite all right, dear."
Once again, the contents were back in the bag. This time Alphard was careful to place the bag right in the woman's arms, which the elderly woman thought was amusing, and then took his leave. "Goodbye," she waved. "Thank you for your assistance." Alphard waved goodbye as well, and went on his way. Twenty minutes had passed. He sighed. He really had a knack for making a fool of himself in front of others.
Alphard looked around and stopped in front of a peculiar looking shop called 'Mrs. Vallencia's Spiritual Guidance Clinic'. What an interesting-looking place, thought Alphard. Perhaps I'll take a quick peek. He pushed the door open, and stood there for a few moments. It was a peculiar place. Before he could take note of anything else, a woman who looked like she was in her late forties bounced her way towards him. "Hello, dear," she crooned sweetly, looking at him with adoring eyes. Gentleman mode activate. "Why hello there, ma'am. I was just looking around and came across this place. It's a rather nice--" he was cut short by the woman, who placed her chubby finger on his lips. "No time for chit-chat! You're aura is very intriguing, and my assistant in the back needs a client!" With that, she grabbed his wrist, gently but firmly, and led him to the back of the shop. Alphard didn't protest; he only wondered why the woman was in such a rush. Perhaps it's something important.
The woman drew back a curtain, and Alphard noticed that there was already a man there. "Come, come," she gestured to a seat behind the table, on the opposite side of the man. "You're going to be getting a reading!" How exciting! Alphard sat himself in the seat and watched as the woman left, leaving him and the man on the other side of the table. He turned his gaze to the man, and with a smile, asked: "So, how is this going to work, sir?"

It was always the waiting that got him, the gap between clients. It made his heart hurt and his patience wear thin. His demons always knew when to strike, and strike they did. Reader had frown use to it, and knew well how to hide his pain from others. He reaches forward, running his hand along the cold surface of the polished wooden table until his fingers tips brushed his cards. He clung to them, taking a few breaths to steady himself. To an outside observer, it would have looked like a meditation.
His focus was pulled out of his own mind has he heard the hustle and bustle from beyond the curtain. He sat strait in his chair and crossed his arms over his cars. He heard the curtain fly open and Mrs.Vallencia's voice encourage someone to have a seat. In his vision manifested a speck, a smudge in an otherwise perfectly white void, muddled only by a wavering black fog.
"Hello." He said curtly as the speck sat down. He heard the joy in his employer's voice, and wished he could share in it. As another voice rang out, this one deeper, Reader knew he was assisting a male. "Very simple. All I will ask you to do is take my card, shuffle them in your hands. If there is a question you want asked, please say it outloud, and I will do my best to answer it. Be careful of how you phrase it. I can not answer broad, overly general questions. For example, instead of asking 'will I find love?' Ask: 'will I find love in the next six months?' As such." He said as he held his cards out. "My name is Reader, by the way. Who are you?"

turn your kindness into strength | [cs=2] Alphard sat there quietly, listening attentively and giving him a nod every now and then to let him know that he was still listening to him. How very interesting! It seemed like fun, knowing what was going to happen to you in the future. Alphard didn't know you could do such things. It was a mystery to him, but a very intriguing mystery indeed. His head began to brainstorm ideas for questions. What should he ask? What about the love fortune that the man mentioned? His usually cheery face fell for a moment, remembering the times he spent with the girl of his dreams. However, he quickly pushed the thought out of the way and instead veered away from the love topic. It seemed hopeless. He wouldn't get to see her again, and even if he did, would she really talk to him? Of course, for Alphard, just seeing her would be enough... It was too hard, but now that his ming had latched onto the topic of his high-school sweetheart, it was hard to think of any other ideas for questions. For one, he didn't think there was anything to know. Asking about his salary just made him look bad in front of everyone, and even though he probably wasn't going to bump into this man again (unless he happened to visit here again, which he might, since he thought the place was ever so interesting), he still didn't feel like asking something as selfish as that. And other than salaries, there wasn't much a grown man like him would be interested in, except maybe lust. But Alphie wasn't that kind of person. His mind wandered back to the love topic. Then again...
"My name is Alphard. Many of my friends prefer to call me Alphie, though," he responded to his question with a smile. "I work at Queen Ming Cuisine. A very fine place. You should visit sometime." Alphard gently took the cards from Reader's outstretched hand and clumsily fumbled with them for a bit. An old-looking card fell from his hands as he tried to get them properly into a straight-looking deck (he didn't know why he was having so much trouble though; Reader had handed them to him in a very neat fashion. Why was he so scatterbrained at times like this?), and he merely blushed red and leaned down from his chair to pick it up. Quickly returning to his original position, he slowly began to shuffle the cards. He wasn't one of those pros who could shuffle the cards in an instant; he had to take it nice and easy if he didn't want any cards falling out of place. Too bad for him, a few cards did fall out anyway, even though he was making sure to be extra careful. "Sorry about that," he muttered sheepishly, obviously quite embarrassed now. He continued to shuffle quietly, now shuffling very carefully and slowly; he was probably shuffling at about 5 cards per hour. When he seemed that he did the job somewhat decently, he gave the cards back to Reader. Whew. Got that out of the way.
It had just struck him now, but wasn't a name like Reader very ironic for a medium? He smiled. Oh, the irony. At the same time, he asked the question that he thought was the only one that would benefit him in the future. "Will I meet somebody I love in the next... four months?" he asked cautiously. When he asked this question, he was hoping it would mean the girl he had dated in high school. Seeing her would be enough for him. Just to know that she was okay. Of course, this could also mean seeing one of his family members, or maybe one of his good friends, or perhaps he would just find a new love altogether. The question was so vague, he wondered if Reader would have trouble with it. He looked at him expectantly, and his heart thumped as he listened for the words the would come out of his mouth.
(OOC: Just say anything, I don't mind. I'll take note of what you say, though, and I'll probably actually put it into action in four months. How exciting!)

Reader took the cards and gently laid them out on the table in two columns, beginning with the top left and moving to the top right. He looked up at the smudge that was Alphard, and nodded. “Love? Alright, lets see what the cards say.” He said as he placed the deck gently to his left and ran his hand along the played cards, feeling the gently braille bumps. He nodded slowly to himself, his sightless eyes fixated on Alphard. “You mostly have Minor Arcana present. This indicates the cards want to show you specific moments in life, as opposed to the general forces that guide it. Minor arcana, or rather the things they represent have a smaller effect on your life then major arcana.” He said as he began to read each card's name, and feel it's position in more detail. He indicated the top card, in the center. “This is the queen of swords. She, like you, is a generous hostess, who seeks to help cultivate others will, inspirations and passions.” He said as he continued to read the cards, branching off the connections and implications in his mind. Everything played together, this he knew. People often came to him hoping to see what fate had in store for him. “Please, before we start, understand that not everything is set in stone, and you can make changes. It is, after all, your life to live. I only show you things as they are now, and if you change nothing. Now, lets look at your past.” He said as he indicated the top left card. The nine of Pentacles. It showed a young woman holding her trained hawk by a golden fence. “This is your past. The Nine of Pentacles. It's upside down, so it doesn’t affect your life positively. You lacked accomplishment, am I right in saying? You relied on others for some gain, particularly...” He brought his fingers over to the top right card. “This person here. The page of Pentacles. Someone who was motivated to try something new with money, or material objects. Neither did she affect you life well.” Reader took a small moment to check the next two cards over again. He frowned gently as he felt the middle left card. “But there is no connection...” He muttered. He remained quiet for a moment and nodded. “Your present situation is shown by the lovers. Now... they do not mean love. They represent making a choice that is good for your heart, one that makes you happy, like the feeling being in love gives you. You've very recently made a choice, and you feel better for it. Or, if you haven't already, you will soon.” He smiled gently, he had to admit, so far this young man's reading was like a bad romance novel. A young man out on his own, a troubled past behind him, seeking love. It would make a great movie. “Your biggest challenge is the Hierophant.” He pointed to the next card to the right. “Living faith in every day. Be it spiritual faith, knowledge or your own intuition. The hierophant is a connection between books and the world. And it is something you are having issues with, correct? Well. Should you let this over come you. This person will enter your life.” The bottom left cad showed a man, like and adventurer. “This person's action are motivated directly by wealth, resources and material objects. It too is upside down, as have been all the pentacle cards. They will not bring you joy. You are possibly going to loose a lot of money, or things you own.” He paused, he was probably scaring the man. “But you still have a chance to change things. Over come your challenge.” He pointed to the last card, a man lying under several swords. “Don't worry. He's not dead, and neither will you be. He is merely asleep. The four of Swords in an invitation to take a rest and recover. So that you can see the world with fresh eyes and proceed with renewed vigour.” Reader leaned back in his chair and give the man to look over the cards himself. "As for your question... i do not think you will find love in the next four months, not with the way things are. But... as i said, you can change things now that you know what to change." He said tapping the Hierophant. Number of words aprox. 713 Tag: Alphard Cor Notes: AN: My fingers are bleeding, so much typing

turn your kindness into strength | [cs=2] Alphard watched with immense curiosity as Reader began to lay down the cards in a certain formation. So they were tarot cards! Alphard couldn't tell because he had been handling them with their backside facing up, so Alphard couldn't tell what kinds of cards they were. He didn't want to accidentally give himself bad luck by looking at the cards before he had his fortune told. His eyes followed Reader's swift, experienced hands until the last card was gently laid on the table. He noticed that some of the cards were upside down. He was about to say something, but then he stopped himself out of politeness. The man probably knew what he was doing. But Reader was staring at him, his eyes not even on the tarot cards that were on the table. How was he going to know what the cards were? That was when it hit him; he was most likely blind, or perhaps his eyesight was just really bad. He noticed out of the corner of his eyes that his fingers were gently moving across the bumps on the tarot cards. Braille.
Alphard didn't know much about tarot cards, fortune, or divination, so he mainly listened and attempted to soak up the information. It was kind of hard, seeing as he had no idea what the man was talking about. Alphard was impressed that he was able to fortune tell even when his eyesight was failing him. It just goes to show you how much one can do when he loves what he does. He observed as he indicated the card in the center. It read: 'Queen of Swords'.
“This is the queen of swords. She, like you, is a generous hostess, who seeks to help cultivate others will, inspirations and passions.” So Alphard was generous, and seeks to help cultivate others will, inspiration, and passion. If one of his family members were present, they would probably laugh at how true this was, being the cheerful, yet loud, family they were. Alphard didn't realize how much of this was true; he was a fool when it came to himself. But he did know that he was prone to helping others, and was now content, relieved from the fact that Reader's fortune telling was somewhat accurate. And if he was accurate, that means whatever he said, goes. He gulped, beginning to get nervous. But then again, Reader had told him that whatever he told him was not set in stone, so that was good. He listened closely.
"Now, lets look at your past."
Gulp. His past? Alphard wasn't so sure he wanted somebody else knowing about his past. Mostly because he thought he was a pathetic human being who couldn't protect the one he loved. He tried to tune his ears, so that all he could hear was him. He felt that this was important. What was going to become of his love life? Would he end up like one of those sad people who never found true love, and lived the rest of their days alone? Alphard didn't want that. Oh no. Not that, please. Imagine the relief he felt when he heard these next few words.
"You've very recently made a choice, and you feel better for it. Or, if you haven't already, you will soon."
Ah, music to his ears. He gave Reader a very big grin (although he probably wouldn't notice it, since Alphard suspected that poor Reader had bad eyes), and his stiff body relaxed. Yes, this was good.
"Your biggest challenge..." Oh. There's more? He tensed again, giving Reader his complete, 110% attention. He suspected bad news.
"... is the Hierophant. Living faith in every day. Be it spiritual faith, knowledge or your own intuition. The Hierophant is a connection between books and the world. And it is something you are having issues with, correct? Well. Should you let this over come you. This person will enter your life." What did he mean? He wasn't aware of many issues in his life. Maybe the problem of what he was going to have for dinner tonight, but he didn't think that was fortune worthy. "This person's action are motivated directly by wealth, resources and material objects. It too is upside down, as have been all the pentacle cards. They will not bring you joy. You are possibly going to loose a lot of money, or things you own." Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy... Alphard was about to have a panic attack over a mere fortune. Normally, it wouldn't have bothered him, but all this guy was spouting was bad stuff now. Calm down, Alphie, he thought to himself, taking two deep breaths. It's fine, nothing to worry about. You just have to take things as they come. Besides, he thought. "You still have the chance to say things," Reader said, in unison with his thoughts. This brought the relief again. Right. Just remember, he could still change things. He listened to the rest of Reader's readings calmly. It was rather silly to think that Alphard had gotten worked over a fortune. But that was in the past. He could change things. He relied on that sentence, that one sentence that told him he didn't have to live his life alone.
"So... that's good. That's a really nice fortune," he nodded towards Reader. "That's a really helpful skill you have there. Maybe I'll take up fortune-telling." Maybe he would. Just as a hobby. "So... how much money do you need? Or..." He eyed the cards again. "Am I allowed to have another reading? I've become quite interested in this fortune-telling business." When he left, he would take note of the sop's location. He was most likely going to come here again.

Reader nodded politely to the man has he began to draw his own conclusions on the cards. A good reading should never be one sided. Conversation was the key to any progress, as long as it's not like any conversation Reader had with his parents. He held back a sigh, covering it with a cough. “Sorry.” He cleared his throat and listened to the man's question.
“The price o the reading is thirty dollars, just see Ms. Vallencia on your way out.” Reader smiled gently. This man was a curious one. Reader had a feeling that the clinic's special service would benefit Alphard. “Certainly, multiple readings can be done, however the chances of them being similar are great. My suggestion, if you want a more accurate reading, in succession, would be an in home consultation. Hat we will do is send someone to your home to read your cards their, where your energy is stronger as the cards can extract more information from it.” As he was taught, reader slowly put his cards in a neat pile and smiled gently. “How does that sound?”

turn your kindness into strength | [cs=2] Thirty dollars seemed like a lot to Alphard. He twitched nervously, thinking of his wallet's health. Perhaps it would have been smarter to ask for the price of the reading before he actually dived in. Well, it was too late for that now. His only worry now was if he could afford the reading with pocket money. His hand searched his pocket, and he found his eel-skin wallet without much trouble. It was trendy lately, the eel-skin wallet. Before he knew it, Alphard had also bought himself one of them. The feel of it was smooth as he fumbled with it. Looking inside, he counted the crispy bills that resided in there. Good. It looks like he could afford it. The nervousness went away, and he found himself grinning.
Multiple readings could be done, and apparently these readings were stronger in one's house. Well, that was interesting! "I'd love to try that," he told Reader, eyes brimming with curiosity. Now he could ask more questions about the future. Alphard wasn't much of a superstitious person, but it looked like that was steadily changing for Alphard. His eyes wandered a bit, and they landed on Reader's far-gazing eyes. Oh, that's right, he thought with a forlorn expression on his face. I don't think Reader can see well. He didn't know what to do. Was he really going to try to lead an almost blind man across streets where danger lurked around ever corner. It was like trying to lead a toddler around Los Angeles, with the toddler being ignorant to the dangers of the world. He decided to ask, just to be on the safe side.
"I can't help but wonder, but Reader, is your sight okay?" he asked, shifting uncomfortably. It was an awfully rude question, and if he was wrong, Reader could be insulted. His clammy hands helped him stand up, albeit shakily, and he walked towards the curtain. Lifting it up, he glanced back, wondering if Reader would follow. "In any case, I'd really like it if you would visit my house for one more reading." Biting his lip, he scouted the area, and found Ms. Vallencia easily enough. Their eyes met, and her eyes lit up as she bounced her way over to Alphard. "Is your reading finished already?" she asked innocently.
"Oh, well the first reading is," he replied. "I was planning on bringing Reader to my house for a second reading. Here's the payment for the first reading." He opened up his wallet and placed 3 crisp bills in Ms. Vallencia's outstretched hand. He smiled at her, and then waited near the door for Reader.
