Truth be truth, Gabi was proud of her best friend.
Most best friends would probably have been a little miffed that their buddy didn't tell them that they were moving out, but nope, not Gabi! She thought it was great; it meant that Hayden was finally putting some distance between himself and his family. That he was taking back control of his life, not letting his bitch sister and his bitch parents get him down! He was showing them a thing or two!!
So when he called her up and told her all about his daring escape from the Green estate, and how he was now living on his own in LA, Gabi was thrilled! Not only did she now have a best friend with his own place to live and throw wild parties at, but she truly believed Hayden was doing the right thing. Especially cutting himself off from his sister.
In the time Gabi had known Hayden (4 years!), she had come to loathe the older woman. Didn't Hayley have anything better to do than breathe down her little brother's neck all the time? He wasn't her well-trained pet, he was a human being. She was kind of a bitch and Gabi couldn't stand her, which was why whenever Hayden did the smallest thing to rebel against her Gabi was always cheering him on. Good for him! Stick it to the (wo)man! Down with the patriarchy! Etc. etc.!
(It wasn't all fun and games though, of course. When his parents had been going through the divorce, Hayden had turned to her for a place to stay- of course she'd instantly told him he could stay with her. She hadn't even asked her parents at the time, she had just blurted it out. She knew they would agree though. They loved Hayden just as much as she did, how could they say no? She adored him with all her heart, and it had been awful to watch him going through the motions of being happy. She tried to distract him and cheer him up, but... well...)
Gabi pushed her too large sunglasses off her face, frowning down at the screen of her phone. She was pretty sure this was the right place- she might not be very good with directions, but she was positive this was it. And as she stared up at the apartment building, a single tear fell down her cheek. How- how many kids just out of high school could afford a place like this??? Jesus Christ Hayden, holy crap.
She let out a light sigh and pocketed her phone, readjusting the strap of her bag so it rested more comfortably on her shoulder. She really shouldn't have been surprised, but it was easy to forget sometimes that Hayden was loaded. It caught her off guard every time. Oh well, no reason to waste any more time over it- Hayden was waiting! She hopped up the few steps to the door, and pushed her way through the door and into the lobby. And there, once again, she blanched.
Dear lord.
There was a pool, a fitness center, a theater- holy crap, Hayden. Shaking her head of messy brown curls, Gabi strode across the room to the elevators, trying not to look around too much. She waited for the doors to close behind her before she started laughing; only Hayden would find a place like this. She'd have to bring Leon with her next time- unless he had already been by? Next time she'd have to come prepared with a candy bar to throw in the pool; it was only right.
The elevator dropped her off on her floor, and Gabi happily bounced the rest of the way to Hayden's flat. She paused before knocking on the door, however; better, uh, brace herself for what was inside. Gabi knew all too well that it wasn't going to be bad, of course, but it was certainly going to be interesting, at the very least. She took a moment to smooth out her clothes and tousle her hair, before rapping on the door to the beat of the Space Jam theme song.
C'mon and slam, and welcome to the jam-!

tagged: failtwin. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: farts Hayden liked quite a few of the people he'd met in Los Angeles so far, don't get him wrong, but it took a certain level of trust and care to really call someone a best friend. Besides, that position had been occupied in his heart already, by two people named Gabrielle Alberts and Leon Everett. He knew it was silly, and probably really immature, but he'd never been given the chance to have a best friend before this, and he was just glad that they saw him the same way. They'd been his pillars of support for the past four years of his lives and he had to admit, being so far away from them all the time had been difficult. It didn't help that he was trying to be independent, too, and trying not to rely on them so much: they were great, really, but he wanted to be able to hold his own. To be strong and confident like they were! So he'd been in contact with them, yes, but tried not to ask too many questions, tried not to ask for too much help, even though Gabi was really good at just... being un-awkward, and Leon knew everything.
However, he did miss them terribly. All the time, in fact. He missed Gabi's laugh and Leon's disapproving gaze, the way he said "Gabrielle," in the same monotone every time she suggested something stupid. If Hayden had been short for something like Haydenella, he was pretty sure Leon would have called him that too. So when Gabi managed to get her dream job working as a Disney princess in Anaheim, Hayden had been ecstatic. She'd be able to come and visit him from time to time. And she'd called him up that day, saying that she'd be down at 5 p.m., and to get ready because here she'd come! So he'd cleaned his house and even folded all the blankets, arranged the cushions properly as he gladly awaited her arrival. And when he heard her rap the door to the tune of Space Jam, he knew who exactly was at the door.
"Gabi!" Hayden exclaimed as he swung the door open. He remembered when they had first met-- he'd been awkward and gangly with scraped knees and a bruised heart, and she and Leon had come and picked him up from the ground and shown him friendship and trust and all the things he'd only heard about in picture books. The brunette wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a tight hug. "I've missed you so much oh my god," he muttered, the smile on his face growing wider as he pulled away. Because it was true. She was his friend, his best friend, and she could never ever be replaced no matter what. "Come in," he said as he welcomed her into his humble abode. It was nothing compared to his old home, so hopefully Gabi would like it!

After what felt, like, a million years, the door finally opened to reveal none other than the one and only Hayden John Green. Gabi beamed up at the boy, her grin as wide as his as she gave him a jaunty little wave. "Hey-o!" Before she could get another word out, however, he had swept her up in a hug that squeezed the air from her lungs. Lord, those biceps. They were going to be the death of her.
"I've missed you too!" She managed to wheeze out, after he finally let her go. It was like being greeted by an overexcited puppy- although to be fair, Hayden pretty much was a puppy in every single way. The cutest puppy of them all. Recovering quickly, she punched him lightly in the arm with a grin, skipping past him and into his flat. Yup, just as she expected: simple, yet expensive. This furniture definitely did not look like he had purchased it from Ikea. In fact, was that a leather couch? Oh, that was definitely a leather couch.
"Nice place!" She plopped down on the couch, taking in everything with curious bright eyes. This all practically screamed rich kid trying his best not to look rich. Gabi understood where he was coming from, though- he had told her all about it over the phone. About the trust fund and the guilt and all that jazz. Leaning back into the couch cushions, she continued, talking with a grin, "I'm totally going to crash here all the time- oh man, we should have a slumber party with Leon! It'd be so much fun!" No don't look at them like that- so they had slept over at each others' houses a few times, it wasn't a big deal or anything. It was all totally sweet and innocent, okay?!
Gabi suddenly sat bolt upright, her mouth in a perfect o as her eyes flew wide open. "Oh right, before I forget, housewarming presents!" She quickly took her bag off her shoulder and began rummaging through it, procuring (among other things) a stick of deodorant, a Santa figurine, and what looked suspiciously like a slice of pizza. Finally, she pulled a small package wrapped in white paper out of the bottom of the bag. Hopping over to the counter, she placed 5 bright red penis candles on the table, a happy smile on her face.
"Aren't they great? I got them in some weird witchcraft store. The lady behind the counter said they're supposed to enhance male sexual desire or some shit." She gave him a little wink. "You're welcome~"

tagged: failtwin. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: farts He really didn't want to make his place seem too fancy, he really didn't, but at the same time he had been told as a child to never trust furniture from Ikea because it would collapse onto him. Then again, as a child, he had been told to not trust a lot of things-- cheaper materials, fast food, people. It was all starting to change, though, and he wasn't sure whether it was good for him. What if he got hurt? What if someone stabbed him in the back? But at the same time he thought that, no, knew that Gabi would never do anything like that to him. She was his best friend, and would never betray him in any universe. Not at all, and that was why he trusted her with all his secrets and his hopes and his fears and everything else. Even if she could sometimes say and do crazy things that were kind of mean, at least she'd never try to hurt him on purpose, right?
"Yes, you should definitely come for a slumber party! It'll be so much fun," Hayden grinned as he sat down on the couch next to her. Wait a minute, where were his manners? He didn't have maids and servants to serve him any more, so he would have to do the entertaining himself. "Ah, do you want something to eat? Drink? Anything? I have juice and chips and cookies. Tell me what you want and I'll get it for you." Most people that were as close to each other as they were would have just told the other to go and help themselves to whatever they wanted, but this was different. It was arguable that Hayden himself was different from most others, in that his sheltered upbringing had driven him to have certain expectations of himself.
Though if Gabi did decide to waltz into the kitchen and take whatever she wanted, Hayden would have been more relieved than anything else. No need for formalities between best friends, right?
However, it was then when Gabi mentioned a gift. A gift! Hayden felt his face light up as she pulled a package out of her bag, and followed Gabi as she walked over towards the counter. His face fell when he realised just what exactly was in it though. Penis... Candles? He felt his face flush as red as the appendages in front of him were. He... Wasn't exactly going to use it. Because it wasn't like anyone had seen his penis as of late-- no wait there had been Jaime from the day before-- oh nooooo---
"T-- that's very nice, Gabi," Hayden said, though anyone would be able to tell that he didn't think that they were very nice at all. "I- I have no intention of enhancing my sexual desire though! Not at all! It's not like anyone's seen me naked at any parties, or something. Not at all!"

She flapped a hand at him as he asked her if she wanted anything- it was sweet, don't get her wrong, but he really didn't have to. "Hayhay please, I don't need to be waited on." Gabi shot him a grin, her tone teasing as she practically laughed, "This isn't a dinner party, silly." The only time she would ever expect him to bring her a drink was if she was in the middle of getting her ass kicked in Mario Kart. Any other time? No thank you, she wasn't a delicate flower; she could help herself to whatever she wanted, just like she always did. It was a kind of talent of her's, actually, making herself at home wherever she went.
Call it a charming quality of her already sparkling personality.
The real icing on the cake of the visit, however, was the face he made when he caught sight of her housewarming gifts. Another A+ gift from Gabrielle Alberts, as per usual. "Suuure you don't." She replied with another wink and a nudge, a Cheshire cat smile on her lips. She knew he really didn't though. They were best friends for a reason, and the only person who knew Hayden better than she did was Leon. She knew he'd react like that though- that was why she bought them for him! The only times she was guaranteed to buy him serious presents was for his birthday and Christmas- honestly, he should know better by now!
True to her words, she moved into the kitchen so she could help herself to his food. Like any good scavenger, Gabi was always looking for any available opportunity to stuff her face. At his last comment, however, she whirled around so fast she was almost positive she snapped something. "Someone saw you naked at a party? You were naked at a party?" She asked, her eyes wide and her expression shocked as she stared at him. A full blown grin overtook her features, and she abandoned her pilfering so she could give him all her attention. "Spill the deets, I want to hear everything."

tagged: failtwin. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: farts Now he'd done it. Hayden gulped as he met Gabi's gaze, her eyes inquisitive as she asked him just how he had ended up naked at a party. Oh dear, this was going to end really badly, he could sense it coming a mile away. "N- no, not like that!" he started to protest, but it was too late. Gabi had managed to grasp hold of the truth and wouldn't stop until she'd dug a little deeper. "I didn't end up naked because I was having sex or something, but someone stole all my clothes from me--" crap, that didn't make it any better-- "I mean, I probably took my clothes off and then someone took them, I'm not sur--" No, forget that, "I don't remember what happened that night at all!"
By then, Hayden was practically wailing. He buried his head in his hands, shaking it from left to right, like a puppy trying to shake off water after a bath. She was just going to turn this into something awful, he could sense it. This was almost as bad as the time when she'd turned him into an Internet meme, and definitely worse than all the times she had taken him to family restaurants and then told the staff that it was his birthday, put together. It didn't even seem all that disturbing to Hayden that he had a ranking of all the pranks that Gabi had pulled on him and all the embarrassment she had inflicted upon him, as well, which probably said a lot more about their relationship than it should have. Hurriedly changing the subject, Hayden yanked the cupboard open, pulling out three bags of potato chips.
"Here, have some!" Her parents were super hippie and never allowed her to have any junk food, so hopefully this would serve as some sort of a diversion. "So... Err... What are we doing today? I can take you to Little Tokyo," Hayden chirped. "Or we could go hit the mall. It's up to you!" Hayden was all-too-excited to bring his best friend around: she'd been the one to lead the way and drag him into adventures so many times, that this was really the least that he could do. Hopefully they'd go and have a grand escapade like she always loved.

Her brows arched to her hairline as Hayden practically wailed in defeat, burying his face in his hands out of embarrassment. Okay, they had been to some pretty crazy parties while they were in high school, but this was the first she was hearing about him blacking out. Interesting. "Someone stole your clothes?" She asked, trying to hide the grin spreading across her face as she watched him curiously, like a cat stalking it's prey. She leaned an elbow on the counter, her tone altogether teasing as she continued, saying, "Man, that must have been a wild party. Invite me next time!" A thoughtful expression crossed her face, as she mused, "I wonder if they sold your clothes online..."
She had actually made quite the pretty penny selling Hayden's ripped Speedo on Ebay. After signal boosting it on Tumblr, it had gotten quite a bit of publicity from the Internet crowd, quite a few people wanting a chance to purchase a relic of meme gold. And since it was coming from the girl who had started the whole thing to begin with, everyone knew it was legit. In the end, it had sold for a lot; she wasn't going to name any numbers, but let's just say Hayden was able to buy plenty of replacement Speedos afterwards, with cash to spare.
A grin lit up her face as he shoved several bags of potato chips at her. Ah, he knew her well. Lifting herself up to sit on the counter, she cheerily ripped open a bag, helping herself to a handful of the salty snack. Super hippie parents meant she had to have a stash of this stuff hidden under her bed; if they ever caught wind that she was eating unhealthy junk food, well, she didn't really want to know what they'd say. The only time her parents had ever really been mad at her was when she dyed her hair blue in her sophomore year. They hadn't even necessarily been mad at her for dying her hair- it was because the dye she used wasn't organic. What could she say? Parents, man.
At Hayden's mention of Little Tokyo, Gabi perked up. Yes yes, that all sounded well and good. But she had... something else in mind. A devious smirk spread across her lips, and she swallowed her mouthful of chips before she said, slowly, "Actually, I have an idea." She met his green eyes with her own twinkling hazels, mischief spelled all across her face as she leaned forward excitedly. Anyone who knew Gabi well also knew that this was a particularly dangerous mood to have the girl in.
"You know how I'm working at Disney now, right?" She asked, waggling her eyebrows at him. She paused for dramatic effect, before continuing, "I've got it all figured out how we can sneak into the park after dark." A beaming grin was on her face; really, she didn't see anything wrong with this at all. Never mind the danger of getting found out and fired, or worse, thrown in jail. It didn't even cross her mind- not even for a second. "Think about it, we sneak in, and we'd have the entire park to ourselves! It'd be great, I was thinking we get there around 1 am or so, just so we'd have enough time after the late night tours have ended for us to make it in without getting caught." She clapped her hands together, pleased with herself and her flawless, brilliant plan. "It's going to be so much fun, I can't wait to go!"

tagged: failtwin. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: farts Upon Gabi's mentioning his clothes being sold online, Hayden instantly felt his face flush. "N- no, I hope not! They wouldn't have known that I was Unlucky Swimmer Boy anyway. Right? Right?" The boy gulped at the sheer thought of it. He really didn't want his identity to be exposed like that, but only his rear had been exposed-- wait bad word-- shown to the entire world, so nobody would have had any way of knowing that he was the infamous Unlucky Swimmer Boy unless they'd been staring at his butt-- okay that was a really disturbing thought, never mind. But at least she was eating her junk food happily now, right?
Hayden heaved a sigh of relief. Yeah, maybe they'd get to go to Little Tokyo and have sushi and a couple of drinks and then a slumber party and have a grand time. "Huh?" he piped up at her sudden assertion that she had something else in mind, suddenly saying that she was working at Disney. "It's a bit too late in the day to make use of your employee discount though, isn't it? I mean, we can go another day, but it's probably better to go in the morning... Oh."
His eyes and mouth widened into 'O's of shock. Okay, this was a bad idea. Definitely worse than the time when she'd taken a picture of his butt and put it all over the Internet. Hayden shook his head, waving his arms wildly in the air. "Gabi, no," he started. "That- that's just going to end badly. Firstly, it's dangerous. Secondly, we could get arrested for it. And that would be bad. I don't want to end up in jail," he stuttered. "We wouldn't be able to attend college that way, and nobody would pay my rent. Let- let's just go to Little Tokyo instead! Doesn't sushi sound great?" he asked, smiling nervously. Hopefully she would be distracted by the prospect of food this once.

"Of course they wouldn't know you're Unlucky Swimmer Boy." She waved away his worries with one of her hands, popping another chip into her mouth as she did. She paused, then remarked, with an evil grin, "Though, if they stole your clothes off you while you were sleeping, they might have recognized your butt..." Butt identity theft was a serious crime. Call the butt police today to report crime in the area.
A frown knit her brows as Hayden refused her plans for them for the evening. Night. Extremely early hours of the morning. Details. "What? Oh, c'mooon." A whine entered her voice, a pout on her lips as she made a fish face at him, puffing her cheeks up at him in annoyance. Go with the flow already Hayden Green, geeze!
She sat up and tossed another potato chip into her mouth, talking with her mouth full as she exclaimed, "It'll be fun! And we're not going to get caught, I've got it all figured out." Now she shot him a wide, sharkish grin, all teeth at the prospect of a little danger. Gabi was never one to shy away from the prospect of getting caught red-handed- in fact, she lived for it. She was some kind of adrenaline junkie, that was for sure. The idea of getting arrest barely even made her bat an eyelash in concern or worry.
"Seriously, we're not going to get arrested or anything like that, don't worry about it." She almost sounded bored as she talked about it- as if jail hadn't even crossed her mind. "Have you ever been arrested when you've gone out with me?" She asked him totally straight faced, already knowing what the answer was but not waiting to hear it before she continued, smiling quite cheerfully, "Exactly! Why in the world would I start now?" Really, what a silly thought. Silly Hayden!

tagged: failtwin. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: farts She was being totally serious about this. Hayden felt the colour drain from his face as Gabi went on, talking about her grand plans and great idea as to just how they were going to break into Disneyland, how she had it figured out, and how she should just trust him. It was almost as though she was completely oblivious to the thought that something could go terribly, horribly wrong. Wait a minute, no; this was Gabi, and he was pretty sure that she was oblivious to the chance that this would go badly. He gulped, shaking his head.
"No. Gabi, they actually have security cameras there-- I don't want to risk anything." Where was Leon when he needed him? Leon, who would know the right thing to distract Gabi with so that she didn't bring this up again. "Please tell me that you were kidding, right? It's really dangerous, Gabi, I don't think that we should do it." His tone was still wavering, and his voice was still shaky. Come to think of it, he had never ever been able to get out of doing something with her in the past. Did that mean that they were going to end up going to Disneyland together in the middle of the night? But with all the things that she had proposed in the past, none of them had been as mad as this!
"Please, let's not even talk about that. W- we weren't arrested in the past, yeah, b- but you've never proposed anything as grand and lofty as this! Did you hear about the kids who broke into Disneyland and then had a book written about them?" No, wait, that was a work of fiction, and completely unrealistic. Though he'd fantastised about breaking into Disneyland like the Kingdom Keepers countless times in the past, Hayden didn't think that he'd actually go and do it in real life. Not unless he had superpowers and needed to save the world, that was. "Wait, no, you introduced me to that series of books! But Gabi, this--" he hesitated.
This wasn't a book. This wasn't a roleplay forum, or one of those things he'd always seen on the Internet but never joined. They were two normal kids leading relatively normal lives, and this was going to end badly.
"Little Tokyo's a better idea," he muttered in a low voice. "Can we just-- can we just do that instead?"

What was most surprising about all this was how adamant Hayden was about not going along with one of her schemes. It was enough to make the girl frown; sure, he had shown discomfort before, or outright protested being dragged along, but he had never been so stubborn about this before. She pursed her lips at him, replying, "I've never been so serious about something in my life!" Which wasn't true, of course, but now that she had the idea in her head, she wasn't going to let go.
"Exactly! Which is why we should do it." She was so excited about all this- she had never broken in to a place as big or as heavily guarded as Disney before. But she was in on the inside now; she could totally pull this off, and who better to take with her than her best friend! Once he got over his initial anxiety, they'd have the time of their lives, she just knew it! She just had to convince him to go with her.
At the mention of the book series, Gabi instantly perked up. Oh right, she introduced him to that, like she had so many other series. Gabi was a mass consumer of all kinds of media, and had gone to great lengths to get Hayden into all the things she had liked. It was the least she could do, all things considered. "Kingdom Keepers was a masterpiece." She said with a nod, momentarily distracted- but not for long, of course. She was a professional after all, you couldn't just change the subject on her!
"Look, I'm telling you, everything will be fine." Her voice was all honey now, as she tried to coax Hayden into going along with her. "Remember, I work there now. They gave me a tour of the place, I know where to go so we won't get caught! And besides, if anyone asks I can talk us out of it." She winked; her fast talking had gotten them out of more than a few pickles, if she did say so herself.
A dejected sigh deflated through the brunette's lips, and she tossed another handful of chips in her mouth. She was the picture of defeat, with slumped shoulders and brooding expression on her face. "Okay okay, fine." She mumbled, tone flat as she glanced away from him. "We can go to Little Tokyo." A pause, then a devious smirk spread across her lips. "First. And then later we can go to DisneyLand!" And all at once she was all smiles and sunshine again- it was enough to give anyone whiplash, with her sudden change in mood.

tagged: failtwin. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: farts How often did she have to make the assertion that she'd never been more serious about something in her life, though? Hayden could put his estimate somewhere between almost every single day and almost every single hour. But he knew Gabi well. Once you'd gotten an idea in her head and food didn't work as a distraction, it was probably almost impossible to get her out of the mindset that this was an adventure that they had to have. More often than not, it meant that he would be dragged along for the ride as well, but he... This time round, he really didn't want to. So he'd tried her second favourite thing in the world, fictional works. For a moment her face had lit up, and so had his in response. "I know right? So good--" he had begun, but then her attention was back on the task at hand. Ugh, what was he supposed to say? Or do?
"Gabi! The law isn't going to help us out if we're caught snooping after hours. That's trespassing, and you could lose your job if we were caught. They're Disney. They probably have security cameras everywhere." Was he more adamant about this than he had ever been? Yes, but Gabi had also never proposed anything illegal before. Okay, that was a lie, she probably had in the past, he thought with a grimace. But they had been illegal, though not this illegal! That, and Leon had managed to talk her out of it. Maybe it was something in the way he stared her down through those glasses, and said in a super-serious tone:
"Gabrielle."
... Never mind. From Hayden, it sounded more like a puppy trying to imitate a professor.
His eyes met Gabi's, and he gulped. Okay, no. That had been completely ineffective. Hayden used Splash, nothing happened. It wasn't fair though: why could Leon use Splash and move mountains and change worlds? Because that was how difficult it normally was to talk Gabi out of anything. "Little Tokyo. Okay? Let's just go to Little Tokyo-- ugh, never mind," he muttered, a sense of dread beginning to churn in his tummy. The unfamiliar sense of discomfort in his chest told him that he was starting to get slightly irritated, and the realisation was sent a chill of horror down his spine: he didn't want to be mad at his friend, he really didn't, but right now she was being insufferable. "Gabi. I am not-- no we aren't going to Disneyland after hours-- just-- Gabi just. Stop. And listen to me for a second, okay?"
This might have been the first time Gabi had ever heard him raise his voice.
Hayden gulped. Oh no, was she going to hate him after this? Would their friendship be okay? He felt a nervous wrenching in his stomach as he said, "L- look. I really don't want to do this. There are plenty of other exciting things we can do without getting caught, or it being illegal. But I am not going."

Typically speaking, Gabi measured her adventures by the amount her friends protested. The more they said that 'no, Gabi, this is definitely a bad idea' just made her want to do it even more. She was like a child, in that sense; reverse psychology was more likely to work on her than logic and reason. For poor Hayden, this fact hadn't quite sunk in yet, though props to him for trying to distract her.
The brunette shook her head slowly, a patronizing smile on her face as she shot the boy a look that practically screamed trouble. "No no, since I work there I have a pass, and you'd be my guest, and I could totally talk my way around it no big deal." She explained in her most reasonable tone, her voice all persuasion like she could get Hayden to change his mind just by continuing to use her backwards logic. Which, to be fair, had worked more than once in the past. 9 times out of 10 she could convince him to go off with her before Leon could stop them.
His use of her full name caught her completely by surprise, however, and Gabi reeled as if he had slapped her. Her expression was pure shock as she stared at him wide-eyed, blinking once or twice in confusion as she slowly processed what he had just called her. Gabi couldn't remember a time in her friendship with Hayden that he had ever called her Gabrielle. It had always been Gabi.
Almost four years of friendship, and this was both the first time he had called her by her full name, and raised his voice with her. To be honest, Gabi felt like she had been slapped. She had so easily assumed he'd go along with what she said as usual, she hadn't once suspected that maybe, for once, Hayden was serious when he said no.
Had her best friend really changed so much behind her back?
Gabi swallowed down the sudden lump in her throat, all the cheer from before vanishing in a split second. She had gone too far, hadn't she? She hopped down off the counter, leaving the bag of chips behind as she stood in front of her friend. "Okay. No Disneyland." She drew a cross across her chest, trying a smile on for size. "Promise." She hesitated for a moment, then took his hands in her's. Hopefully he wasn't- he wasn't mad at her. "We'll go to Little Tokyo, alright?"

He regretted the words almost as soon as they escaped his lips-- her shocked expression and wide eyes were enough to make the emotional part of his mind tell him to stop, tell him that he'd hurt one of the people he cared for most in the world, tell him that their friendship might as well be over just because he was trying not to get arrested. For a moment he was prepared to say that he took it back: he was prepared to say that he would go with her, that he didn't care if he got thrown into jail, just so that he could have his best friend back. Please don't hate me.
But there was a part of him that just knew that he had made the right decision.
Hayden gritted his teeth, bright greens still trained on his best friend's expression. She hopped down from the counter, standing in front of him, drawing a cross over her heart, declaring that they were... They weren't going to Disneyland. Despite his earlier inhibitions, he felt a wave of relief pass through his entire being, eyes still trained onto her as she smiled, actually smiled, and then promised.
"Y- you don't hate me, do you," Hayden said, his voice soft, eyes still brimming with worry. "You... Please don't hate me for this, I just really didn't want to get thrown into jail. Or to do this. I know that it's more fun for you if I play along but I don't... I'm so sorry, but I can't do this with you."

And then her heart proceeded to break in two. Say what you want about her, but if there was one thing Gabi really, truly loved with all her heart in this world, it was her friends. She was so oblivious at times, oftentimes so self-absorbed, she honestly didn't even realize she was hurting the people she cared about most until it was too late.
Hayden was one of her very best friends- you know the webcomic, Homestuck? There's a type of relationship in it, called 'moirails,' that, to put it simply, meant 'platonic soul mates.' That's what Hayden was to her- someone she loved with all her heart, in the most platonic way possible! She'd do anything for him- and she hadn't meant to hurt him, not in a thousand years. And the alien feeling of guilt bubbled up in her stomach, and she knew she absolutely had to reassure him.
So she grinned up at him, standing on tip-toe and ruffling his hair. "I could never hate you." She said softly, all sugar and sweetness as she squeezed his hand. "Never, ever, ever." And it was true- Gabi knew that no matter what Hayden did or said, she would always forgive him. She loved him too much to even think a day might come where she'd hate him. Besides, let's face it: this was Hayden. It was scientifically proven that it's impossible to hate someone as sincerely nice as him.
"It's okay, okay? I'm sorry I pushed it." A genuine apology was rare for Gabi, but when it came to her friends she didn't mind. They might not always know it, but she would bend over backwards for them if they only asked her to. "No arrest warrants for Hayden Green tonight!"

tagged: failtwin. time: May 8th 2012, 17:00 speech: hayden. notes: farts Fear of darkness? He'd been over that since he was a child. Fear of drowning? He was a swimmer, so he wouldn't have to deal with that. Fear of being exposed as an Internet meme to the whole world? Well, that was actually somewhat terrifying, but he would have his face and his darkest secrets exposed to the whole wide world if it meant that he wouldn't lose his friends. Because that was what Hayden feared most, in the whole wide world-- to lose Leon and Gabi because he had said or done something wrong, because at this stage it felt like they were almost the only people he had left. But then Gabi said she could never hurt him, and he felt his insides practically melt into a puddle of goop.
"R- really?" Hayden exclaimed. Wait, no, he already knew that, but it was nice to hear it from someone like that, for Gabi to reassure him that they were always friends, that they would always be friends, that she could never hate him no matter what he might inadvertently say or do. Hayden bit his lip, averting the other's gaze. "I'm sorry I didn't pull through. But--" he paused. "I'm up for adventures, don't get me wrong. But I don't want to do anything dangerous. Please don't stop asking me to do crazy things forever, okay? Because," he smiled, finally meeting her hazel eyes with his.
"You brought so much adventure to my life, and I will always appreciate that."

"Really really!" She laughed, leaning in to hug him tight. Gabi gave the absolute best bear hugs, there was no question about that. She could snap spines with her hugs! (Okay maybe not, but anyone that was at least a foot taller than her usually ended up wheezing for air by the time she released him. Having swimmer arms had it's advantages.)
He really ought to know by now, though; Gabi would never leave him. Or Leon, for that matter. She had no doubts in her mind that she could easily make new friends, if and when the time ever came when she left for places far away; talking to people was easy for her. But to form a connection with others, like the one she had with Hayden? It was unthinkable. Their friendship really was unique from any other, and she did appreciate how he put up with her and her silly antics.
To be perfectly honest, she was actually a little proud of him. It had been shocking, sure, but not necessarily in a bad way. It just went to show- Hayden had done some growing up, in the time since he moved out and away from his parents' house. It just went to show how toxic that place had been for him- those people had been for him.
She was happy for him!
Gabi pulled away and took a step back, cheeky grin in place as she said, "It's okay, getting arrested probably isn't something anyone would willingly want to do anyway." A shrug; not necessarily true, since it was something she was, err, interested in. Just for the experience. What, it'd be an interesting story! Then again, she may or may not have a few loose screws. Who knows? It was a mystery.
"Oh, well that's good!" She exclaimed with a false sigh of relief, turning away from him to seat herself back on the counter again. She picked up the bag of chips again, and proceeded to go right back to stuffing her face. It didn't matter if they were going out to eat or not; Gabi had a black hole for a stomach, she could eat any and everything. She continued to say, with a mischievous little grin, "I was starting to get worried the LA air had changed you completely!"
