For those wondering who haven't heard us talk about it, TF will be likely moving to V5 BEFORE the December deadline. In fact, it will very likely happen sometime this summer, but when exactly is hard to pinpoint – it all depends on how smoothly things go for me making the new skin/figuring out the extent of what coding the forums can take and how to achieve it, blah blah. This is why we currently have a new skin – I know it will likely take me another couple months to figure out. Why are we moving before the deadline? Because we want to! Simple as that. There's a lot of good things about V5, and they outweigh the drawbacks by...alot, honestly. Here's what to expect when the switch comes (I'll add to this list as I find more things as I poke about my test site).
THE GOOD - Everything will be much more organized and easier to find for all the staff. The admin panel is a whole lot easier to navigate and modify.
- Very nice built in account switcher – meaning all us character whores will have a much easier time with our accounts. - Custom pages. Seriously you have no idea how excited I was when I realized our content can be CONTENT and not just threads on forums.
- Character profiles can actually be implemented on our PROFILES and not on the forum. I'm unsure if we will do this (due to plot updates that need to be made to profiles on occasion), but I'm attempting to find a way to.
- Dani will have a ball customizing every piece of freakin' coding she can to make everything sexy.
- Direct tagging in posts. You just put @name and it will instantly send a notification to the person who's name you tagged!
- WYSIWYG Editor...meaning you can edit your post directly WHILE previewing it.
- Notifications for just about everything so you won't miss anything. You can set them to notify you when there's a reply to your threads, and staff get notifications for just about anything site-related.
THE BAD - Templates will break. A fair few can be edited to still work on V5, but the coding is different so YES they will break. This can be dealt with.
- In general this means re-hauling all profiles as the sitewide template will be removed and/or edited to be something completely different.
