the city is at war bless the young and rich with designer drugs and designer friends It was fun. Shopping, that is. And the best part? Elaine didn't have to carry anything. Not with her new friend over here helping her with her oh-so heavy bags. All thanks to him, she was able to fully enjoy shopping, even in the absence of her usual company. She supposed he wasn't all bad, she had just conveniently come across some useful information. And that useful information was being put into some use. And as a result, he was towing around her bags (the load that would just get bigger and bigger as time continued to pass), and she was enjoying herself. What more could she ask of this situation? Besides, after this, she'll tell him what she promised to. Who knew the simple phrase "I know where there's some snow" would do something so beneficial to her? Of course, Terebellum probably thought that they were actually going to the place where the promised snow was, but no. They were at the mall, and every time they visited a shop she always said "We'll go there later!"Honestly? Snowboarding was not her thing, shopping was. Snow wasn't her thing. There was barely any snow in Larissa, and there was barely any snow here. Well, she took that back. There was snow, in the mountains, in both places. She just never went there. Plus, it was usually very wet, and being very wet in a very cold place was not appealing to her at all. Why would anyone want that? Oh wait, because this was a Dia, and she knew all the Dias were crazy in their own way. She wasn't sure what was wrong with this one, but there had got to be something. If she couldn't find anything, she'd probably make something up - because there's no way there could be a normal Dia, no way! "Just a couple more shops, I think~!" Elaine was lying, as she was often prone to do when talking about shopping. No, they'd be stuck here for hours and hours on end, especially since school had only just! And there was no way she was carrying any bags when she had someone accompanying her. ___________ 3:30pm, 15 May 2012 fulfills contest challenge pack: character must gain themselves a new friend TEREBELLUM DIA

California has been miserable to say the least. Terebellum was in a constant bad mood thanks to everything that was the Los Angeles environment. So you can clearly imagine his surprise and excitement when the boss’ daughter Elaine came up to him and told him that she knew where there was snow. Where there was snow there were freezing temperatures and the opportunity to go snowboarding. And like the naïve child that he was, he followed her without a second thought.
They left directly from headquarters though so there was no chance for him to stop and pick up his snowboarding equipment not that it made much of a difference now. Instead blissfully rolling around in frozen water like he had envisioned, he was now following the smiling brunette through a large building that contained a multitude of shops. She walked in front of him stopping every so often to enter one the stores while he waited patiently somewhere nearby. Then she would come back to him, hand him another bag, and they would continue and repeat. At the very least they were somewhere air conditioned. That much was better than nothing.
Still, there was obviously something quite wrong about this picture but there wasn’t much he could do about it now. He could stop and leave but how would he get back? He didn’t know the area and it wouldn’t so him any good to get lost again. And the idea of snow - precious, precious snow - was more than enough to make him patiently follow Elaine around until then.
But even he had his limits.
Terebellum quickened his pace a bit so that he could catch up to Elaine. He shifted a bit to adjust his grip on the bags before asking once again, ”How long before we can go snowboarding?”

the city is at war bless the young and rich with designer drugs and designer friends She had come directly from school and to headquarters, where she had then picked up Terebellum and then proceeded to go to the mall with him. Only she wasn't supposed to - Elaine had strict orders to stay within the HQ as per her punishment so that her father could keep an eye on her. Of course, no one else had actually been informed of this little predicament, not anyone she was interested in anyways. In fact, the punishment was just as pitiful as ever as she was able to make her escape fairly quickly. Security needed to work on that.
So she strolled through the seemingly billions of shops in Kings Mall, dragging along the poor Dia who was probably weighed down by the many bags she had given him. Elaine may have felt sorry for him for 2.3 seconds before she realized that she was gonna have to go snowboarding with him afterwards. So may as well enjoy this until it ended. But then he started asking questions (granted it was only one, and a reasonable question), and she resisted the want to tell him he shouldn't ask so many.
"Maybe in a little bit~ I'm doing you a favor, so the least you could do is to do me a favor by helping me here. Then, I promise, you get to see your snow." Although said snow was... quite a way's away. Plus, it was nearing summer. Snow might still be there, but... it might also be melting. But Elaine had left that one small significant detail out. She was gonna enjoy herself and just because her little servant-for-the-day decided to yap and be a bit of a downer, she was going to add another hour to their little impromptu shopping trip. And she was just going to finish, too.
She smiled at him, tilting her head in a half-sincere and half-murderous intent for him daring to talk back to her. "Just a few more, okay?"

Terebellum nodded at Elaine's words. It was true that she was doing him a favor. She was doing him a really big favor, if he thought about it. It would help him deal with the sudden transfer that much better. He was young, they told him. It shouldn't be too hard to adapt. Terebellum thought that they were all being pretentious. They assumed that he would be able to deal with such a sudden relocation after living and training his entire life in a much, much cooler climate and they were completely wrong. They could have sent him somewhere cooler first to help him acclimate but no, it was -5C to 25C or nothing it seemed. (The Impedio Society could care less about his adaptability but Terebellum cursed his life nonetheless. Teenagers, y'know?)
But a promise was a promise and Terebellum trusted Elaine to keep hers. In return for the location full of ice and cold, Terebellum was willing to carry as many bags as necessary. He could practically feel the freezing wind chill already.
Elaine finished by giving her a look that he could not truly decipher so he decided to ignore it. Terebellum gestured as best he could to the bags in hand. "May I ask what all of this is for?"

the city is at war bless the young and rich with designer drugs and designer friends So maybe Elaine should have felt bad for the guy. Just a little bad. Not a lot though. She found that after a while she got so caught up in shopping she didn't realize how much she bought and ended up overwhelming her shopping partner for the day. Determined not to let that happen until the very last second, she just kept dragging him along, stopping by every and any shop that crossed her path. It was more to feed her addiction than to actually mean anything. She'd probably wear the clothes maybe once or twice (unless she really took a liking to something in particular), and the other things would probably just... sit there. Do nothing, just for the sole purpose of looking pretty.
And, well, there were some things that were made for the sole purpose of looking pretty. They weren't used in much of anything, actually. The purpose of this was honestly, to feed her shopping addiction. And it was a very bad addiction indeed. It ate her up inside if she didn't shop once every week or two. She supposed it could be worse - but it was pretty bad either way. "What's all this for? Well, I like buying things. So I'm buying things." Most of what she bought were clothes, clothes that would eventually go into her already overflowing closet.
"I like to be fashionable." Fashionable when she blew up the HQ and took over. Because it was still a thing. But for now she flipped through the list of allegedly snowy places near Los Angeles (thank you Google), and wondered just which one to refer him to. She disappeared into another shop, found something rather cute to buy, came out and handed the bag to him. "I really do appreciate this, though."

The reply that Elaine gave him was less than satisfactory. It only confused him further. Why buy things if there was no use for them? It seemed rather wasteful. In Grise Fiord, due to the limited supplies and harsh living conditions everything needed to be used and used well so as not to waste. Terebellum could remember his first few years there. His grandparents may have spoiled him to some degree but Ila never did. If anything, he had to buy things for Ila sometimes since Ila spent most of his money on their living expenses. Then again she did say the she liked shopping. Perhaps it was in the same way that he liked snowboarding. He never could have imagined going without snow in his life. Now that he was in Los Angeles, that nightmare was a reality. He did not wish that kind of torture upon anyone so it was probably best to let her shop.
"It's no problem," Terebellum replied after taking yet another bag from her. (Was there anyway he could get a box or a sled or something? It would certainly make it easier to carry all of this.) At least what she was buying wasn't heavy and he could manage this much at least.
'By the way, what does that mean? The word 'fashionable', I mean."

the city is at war bless the young and rich with designer drugs and designer friends Elaine couldn't help but stare. Stare at him with incredulity at his ignorance. Did he not know what fashion was?! Was he really that stupid? This needed to be fixed. Right now. Sure, she had thought he looked a little bit shabby, but maybe that was his preferred style of dress. Now Elaine knew better - now she knew he was in dire need of some fashion advice. And Elaine was only happy to oblige. "Fashionable. You don't know what fashionable means?" It wasn't really a question, not really.
"It means looking good, and you don't look so good right now." Devious smirk was devious. "We gotta fix that, right now!" Now that she thought about it, he sort of looked attractive, under all that... unfashionableness. The first thing on the list was hair. Did he even take care of his hair? It was nice and blond and bright but.. it seemed so unkempt! So instead of shopping around the area, she led him to the nearest salon. "Your hair first."

"Well no. Not really." Terebellum shrugged casually as best he could while weighed down with all the bags. Living in Grise Fiord meant that comfort and survival ranked much higher on the list of priorities than fashion ever would. The primary type of clothing worn in the little town were whatever sweaters they could import up to the north or homemade fur clothing. Warm, comfortable, efficient; whether or not it was fashionable was debatable. "Rather, I can make an educated guess as to what the word means but for the most part I don't really understand."
"Okay?" Terebellum blinked once, twice at the insult that never really clearly registered. His looks had never bothered him before and probably wasn't going to bother him any time soon either. He allowed himself to be dragged to another store that Elaine had called a salon and was forced into the next available seat. The bags that he had been carrying were stowed at the waiting area.
"Elaine..." he said uncertainly. "What's going on? What are we doing?" He was so confused.

the city is at war bless the young and rich with designer drugs and designer friends Terebellum may not have bothered about his looks, but Elaine was bothering about it now. This was her new project, a new person to make into a success story, whether they wanted to be one or not. So maybe she had watched one too many reality TV shows, and maybe she was making too big of a deal of something. "We're going to make you pretty."
If there was a time to worry for Terebellum, it was now. She had that rather evil glint in her eye saying that by the end of this, either Terebellum was going to be pleased, or he was going to be absolutely mortified. Of course, Elaine's favorite color was pink, so there was no doubt that there would be pink in his new attire. Hey, maybe she could even be mean and give him pink hair. Ah, that would just be funny, wouldn't it? "C'mon, after you become fashionable, you can go snowboarding! In fashion."
Some might have feared that Elaine was going off on the deep end. But no, this just regular, Elaine behavior.

"I'm sorry, what was that?" Did she just say that she was going to make him 'pretty'? Pretty was for scenery. Pretty was for women. Men were supposed to be strong and handsome and they were supposed to worry more about getting work done than being pretty. Why would she make him pretty of all things?
The chair that he was sitting in was squishy and cold to the touch. Although Terebellum appreciated the cool seat he was not so sure he appreciated the look that Elaine was giving him. There was something a bit worrisome about the way she was acting and he was beginning to think that he was going to figure out a way to leave.
"Snowboarding?" Terebellum didn't know this himself but he could potentially be an addict. An addiction to snowboarding is probably something laughable but he has snowboarded constantly for a majority of his life. Cutting him off from his sport was completely cruel and unusual. So with the promise of snow and snowboarding, Terebellum sat back obediently and looked up at Elaine. "As I long as I can go snowboarding it doesn't matter if I am fashionable or not."

the city is at war bless the young and rich with designer drugs and designer friends In a city that judged on appearance and attractiveness, Elaine was doing Terebellum a favor. Actually, she was more in it for the pure fact of makeover - and she loved makeovers - but if he decided to keep the appearance, maybe he wouldn't be a complete dork at school like she was led to believe this whole entire time (after all, he wanted to go snowboarding). Plus, he honestly didn't look half bad! He would just look better if he allowed her to make him look even better.
Elaine wasn't exactly waiting for consent either. He was really obsessed with snowboarding, wasn't he? Just one mention and he was off. "Well, you'll soon learn. You'll learn." And she left him for a while as she paid the hairdresser and ordered them to make sure his hair looked great. Her instructions were 'make him handsome', and however that hairdresser interpreted it, so be it. She trusted this place to make good decisions.
Well, then again, she did also trust this place to give her a good laugh. Perhaps, pink hair? Oh, that was a funny thought, it was.

And so the poor child sat obediently as the woman moved around him, fussing with his hair and trimming at it this way and that. So apparently this so called "makeover" was really just a haircut. Terebellum could deal with that. It probably was about time for him to get it shortened anyway. Although he had to wonder why Elaine couldn't just call it a haircut. Or why it was necessary to get a haircut at some place so unnecessarily bright and garish. They could have just stayed at home if she really thought that his hair needed cutting.
By the time his hair was done, Terebellum was honestly getting really impatient and wanted to get up and move. It was quite boring just sitting there. The only entertainment there was had been to listen to the women beside him chatter on about some gossip regarding their lives that he did not care about in the least. And were the different gels and liquids that they had mixed into his hair really necessary?
No matter. The whole experience was over and he walked over to where Elaine was waiting. "That was an experience," he mumbled. "I'm not quite so sure I want to be fashionable."

the city is at war bless the young and rich with designer drugs and designer friends When Terebellum was back, she couldn't help but be delighted. "Woah, you could actually pass as handsome now!" He had been sort of cute before, but now he passed that threshold. "I mean, you did look cute before." A wonder what a haircut did to him. Although... His clothes were a problem, but at the same time, he was going snowboarding and she didn't want to give him clothes just for him to go ruin it. Then again, when people went snowboarding, they usually dressed in warm clothes, right?
"Of course you want to be fashionable! What will people think of you?" To be honest, Elaine wasn't sure if he cared about what people thought of him. But she did care about what people thought of her, and if she was to be associated with him she needed to make sure he wasn't a sloppy mess.
"Hey... hey we're friends right?" They were, right? Sure, right now to her he was more of a lackey to carry her bags, but surely they could be, right? "My dad'll kill me if he finds out I went out." She was technically grounded. Technically.

Friends. Now there was an idea. He had not really thought about it, if he were to be completely honest with himself. This entire time he has been in Los Angeles all he has really done is complain about the heat and search desperately for snow at every possible opportunity. He hadn't even given thought to the people that now surrounded him and the new relationships he was slowly forming.
Terebellum offered her a small smile and reached over to grab the bags as promised. "Yes, of course. We're friends."
Although he doubted that her father would physically kill her, it sounded like it was probably best that they get back. "Does this mean that we won't be snowboarding today? Right... Well we should go back to headquarters then."
Just a little more. It was one more step towards his goal at least. At least he had found someone that knew where he could find some snow. He would have to ask about it at a later date, he supposed.
